TRL = Total Request Live.

So the videos are requested by the audience. Looks like the kids are liking Lady Sov.
Def Jam is doing a good job of marketing her as well- imo.

A remix just came out with her and missy elliott so i expect that song will be probably do even better..

No. The obvious concept is "female Eminem', the single even has echoes of 'My Name Is' and the video certainly does. There isn't anyone else they could have chosen, or who would have been open to that level of styling. Good luck to her, whatever I think.

Hmm. if lady sov plays her cards right maybe she can pull JME and some other grime cats and ladies up with her?

In fact that is my prediction as an american that listens to some grime and dubstep- that JME will be featured at some point on one of her new mass marketed records - he will get signed by Def Jam- and that will be the opportunity for other british cats to start selling more records here. I am sure Jay-Z knows about the UK grime people now. He and the Def Jam marketing teams are prob slowly working up to introducing more of it into the U.S. since it is a fresh vein of music that most americans don't know about yet.
Of course i could be totally wrong as well.


I wouldn't doubt that JME will be the next british cat to become well known here.

I predict by the end of 2007 JME will be having some shine here in the U.S. and if i am wrong i will eat my words.

LEts just say that i have a good feeling about the possibility of other people breaking through right now and a hunch that they could make it here without an angle- on just their talent and some decent marketing.

The video's very good and elevates the song a bit -- Lord knows that it was in dire need of it -- but I still cringe whenever she utters/sings one of those (focus-grouped?) lines that remind the listener that she is, indeed, British. That being said, it would be amazing if she blew up at large.

If I was given a major label A&R position and I had to sign a British act (or group) my priority list would look like this:

1. Kano
2. Wiley
3. JME
4. Roll Deep
5. Klashnekoff (or entire crew, Kyza, Jehst, etc.)

If I had enough money to buy out Dizzee Rascal's contract, I'd do it as well. JME wouldn't be as hard a sell as you think to Americans. Shit, I could do it EASY. One.

Just FWIW, the videos are largely requested by people paid by the labels to hype their singles, not by the audience / kids.

At least that's what some "MTV is shit" TV documentary I watched in New Zealand maybe 10-15 years ago said. Must be true.

Kano has that song with vybz kartel as well that kinda of stuff could make at least an impression here amongst dancehall fans. Cameos on records of american artists could elevate these guys into the scope of the consumers in the US who have tunnel vision.

Although dizzee did do that thing with t-pain i don't know how far that took him..

It would have to be stuff with other street type artists..

Not saying its kosher but... you know people need to be told what is the cool thing sometimes and they usually learn that from TV here in the US.

So Sov making it to #1 on TRL could go along way in her promotion here.

1. Ruff Sqwad, and have them remake "Just died in your arms tonight" with like Pat Benatar or someone singing the hook

2. Sway, and put him on some Michael Jackson shit

3. MIA, and give her to Timbaland similarly. That was mooted but dunno what went on.

4. Roll Deep - and get them to roll all over Dipset

5. Klashnekoff, and get him involved in some lyrical battles

I'd love to see someone do a US/UK battle programme.
