@tobyshooters and I saw Eraserhead recently in a Sao Paulo theater... I think we were maybe both a little disappointed? It has such a cult following, but there was no warmth in it, no magic. Left me cold. There is darkness in his films, plenty, but also such light.

Really should be standard practice to collect and donate a library, as a collection, to a major institution. Or at least type up a complete list of titles.

you can filter the auction by category so you just see books from his library that are up for sale

I realised all of lynch's films have big, classic, human condition-type themes once you unravel them

eraserhead - parenthood
the elephant man - beauty
blue velvet - innocence and experience
wild at heart - romantic love
twin peaks - sexual abuse
lost highway - jealousy (also guilt)
the straight story - familial love
mulholland drive - unrequited love
inland empire - infidelity

alternatively:

eraserhead - self-actualisation
elephant man - human dignity
blue velvet - hidden corruption
wild at heart - youth
twin peaks - incest
lost highway - sexual inadequacy
the straight story - ageing
mulholland drive - revenge
inland empire - prostitution
twin peaks return - the savior complex

I think that's right. Someone once told me that underneath all the fx and magical realism, Lynch is trying to tell us something very simple, about violence towards women. I think there's truth to it, and also the themes you mentioned. They're deepdwelling fish of many colors.

how could you not be moved by this prescient piece of filmography? I know guys who will only buy "duck" because they have no idea what 'chicken"may constitute
