Environmental Collapse: when and how bad?

weather going to be pretty rough in Nottingham today according to the BBC weather app

Hurricane force winds and temperatures of 403 degrees

London doesn't get off lightly with predicted wind speeds of 13,508mph

Crystal clear, a swathe of faience blue sky but it’s 7 degrees and the first day with a heavy coat dog walking post night shift among a light touch of frost this morning taking the kids to school, thank the gods half-term is nearly here

Is the storm over? A bit underwhelming all in all. Not really an "astronomical event"

edgelord needs more death and destruction?

at any rate, it was being described as it currently was at the time

They said in the same post:
"A reminder, this is not expected to landfall at this intensity (I hope)."

The US media seems a bit disappointed; maybe Americans should direct their focus into building better houses (preferable somewhere else than Florida)

One thing I've never understood is the psychological appeal of making yourself look like a total cunt as efficiently as possible.

And no, it's not over.

I just sense a bit disappointment in the media that is all, no need to use cuss words

No, you're doing the tedious right-wing edgelord thing, aren't you. "It hasn't literally drowned the whole of Florida, what a let-down, chortle, guffaw."

It's Florida! Home of ultra-rich republicans, narcissists and climate-deniers! Even Jordan Peterson lives there now. Why should we care about those people so much?

The people I know there are nothing like that.
There are millions of regular people that live there that are just trying to get by like some cousins I'm very close to that I basically grew up with.
I also have some friends and family that are still struggling and suffering from Helene so I guess it's much more funny and amusing when you aren't close to any of it.

He knows that, of course, he's just being a prick.
I'm just mocking US-style sensationalist television which has infected European reporting as well. This was breaking news for two days, way more coverage than the European floods last month. Mind you, I am mostly mocking European reporting.

Do you think a professional meteorologist was just hamming it up for the camera, then?

The usual pricks (who invariably think it's ridiculous that human activity in general could be affecting the climate) are frotting themselves silly about secret government hurricane machines, of course.
Do you believe in secret government hurricane machines for which there are patents online?

A professional doesn't cry because a professional knows it's going to be a lot weaker at landfall ffs.

They weren't crying though were they?
Let's back this up:
They were reporting the state of what it was at the time.
The 2nd strongest hurricane ever recorded by pressure on this side of the world is something of interest whether or not it's over land at the time, AND they also said under it that it wasn't expected to make landfall at that intensity, or they so hoped.
At any rate, it seems to me that it would almost always be better to err on the side of caution by not downplaying it since a lot of people are stubborn about evacuating.
Finally, Helene was still a category 4 when it made landfall so I'm not sure why you say they know it's going to be lot weaker at landfall.

Milton holds the record for fastest intensification from a tropical depression to Cat 5 hurricane, fact fans.
