i'm thinking of ending things.
supposedly one of the top films of 2020 but it was a bit of a disappointment i think. the first half of the film is quite okay, there's some tension and it's a bit creepy and you don't know where it's heading to. but after a while these characters become so annoying that you just wish they would all get slaughtered.

My parents are watching Midnight Sky. It's really boring and badly written. Terrible astronaut banter.
Before this we watched about 3 minutes of Kenneth Branagh's Ben Elton-penned biopic of Shakespeare, which seemed terrible. Crowbarring in Bardic Easter eggs, Branagh in a big fake nose (so it might be worth checking out for unintentional laughs).
So avoid those two.

@Corpsey Can't say I think its a masterpiece, but I am a sucker for astroflicks and the whole set design and sci-fi wonder felt towards everything. Plus, Clooney's beard was admirable.
I thought the structure of it was a bit forced, as if it maybe felt compelled to deliver on the mindfuck front. I mean, it surprised me, to be honest. But then again, I'm almost never trying to predict where stories are going. Don't find that to be a very rewarding approach, experientially.
I also admire any attempt at a bottle episode, which was pretty much the case for Clooney's character, as well as the B story bunch who somehow didn;t give off a bottle-episode vibe. Wasn't familiar with the actor playing Maya, but she was memorable I thought. Great lineup overall.

I really do think Interstellar set the tone for astroflicks. Gravity missed the trendsetting mark there, redeemed perhaps by the legendary cinematographer Lubezki. At film school in chicago he was absolutely revered, and not without reason.
Not sure about The Martian. And I haven't seen 2001 recently enough to comment on it.

We watched the Branagh Orient Express over the hols which was served with a large slice of ham. Depp as a total shit was spot on though. Ken’s Poirot moustache was genuinely laughable

Anaconda (1997)
Thought it might be fun in a shit way, but it was just shit. They tried to do Jaws in the Amazon with a giant snake and it really shows. There are so many limp imitations of musical cues, certain shots, the iconic moments. They've got the zoom, the snake popping out of the water, the ticking fishing line, the grizzled, lunatic hunter. It just goes on and on. The cast's bizarre too: J-Lo, Ice Cube, Jon Voight and Owen Wilson? Voight is absolutely ridiculous. He's got this horrible, thin ponytail and sounds like he's doing a Tommy Wiseau impersonation.

Last night I watched The Dig with my parents on netflix. It wasn't terrible but it was very bland, and it was a shame Ralph Fiennes was playing a rustic excavator but he never loses his temper and starts spitting on people and sniping innocents from the balcony of the country house

Thunder Road - I wanted to watch a Robert Mitchum film. I think he wrote this and wrote the song for it too. It was alright but I struggle a bit with the Southern Accents. Some nice car chase scenes but not as good as the noir Hell Drivers I watched the other night and I don't really go for many British films, always seem too mannered like The Dig for me.
Conquest - I'm not up on Fulci films. Seen a few. Zombi 2. Black Cat. City of the Living Dead. This one again, although I didn't not like it, I wouldn't recommend it. It's weird and probably makes something like Zardoz seem normal but it does have some nice sound effects and a Claudio Simonetti soundtrack.
