Premiership is having a very strange year. Of the top 6, only Spurs are playing better than they were last year. (City too, but they're behind where they should be so they don't count).

Darned cockwombles.
What a mental turnaround. Wenger's gonna kick every door between Wigan and the Emirates.

Ultimately won't make any difference to Arsenal's season though. Their fragility would've been exposed elsewhere. Goalkeeping-wise they're a fucking disaster. Great winning goal though.

If the "big four" are playing worse than they were last year (quite possibly true), then, with the exception of Liverpool (who are just shit this season), they're still quite a ways ahead of the rest judging by the table. Spurs are magic right now, but it's consistency that they need....*

* plus not to lose key players to Chelsea or City.

deffo.

interesting relegatees for the Conference, Darlo and (realistically it will be) Grimsby. there's a lot of southern-based teams in the Conf so this has to be good for the likes of York, Barrow, Alty, Mansfield, Wrexham.

and w Newport going up we've got our first south Welsh Conference team since the heady days when Merthyr were a lot better than they currently are.

should be an interesting next season.

Luton surely in the play-offs, but, i guess, you never know, how many times does the second best team of the season overall collapse in the PLs and the fifth placer ends up going up... ...OK that probably happens far less than cliche says it does, but, hey.

Gap's getting smaller though – it's now impossible for Chelsea to match Utd's winning points total in the last 3 years, let alone theirs from the Mourinho double. 8th place Everton already have more points than 7th place Fulham last year etc.

Hmm, true, but will still be two clubs (possibly even three) in the 80s. Tottenham seem to be taking on the Everton role of being able to beat anyone on a good day, but being unable to mount a title challenge themselves, and Man City of course will break into the top four by sheer dint of endless cash reserves, but...it still all leaves me feeling a bit 'seen it all a few too many times before'. How long before someone other than Man U or Chelsea wins the title? Any bets?

But, compared with Spain, we've got it good, and there have been some golden moments this season.

And CL semis this Tuesday/Wednesday!

Luton fan eh Pat?

all the best mate, i'm a (rather part-time!) Alty fan. didn't go on Satd but our kid attended and said that you were basically contained. it does rather sound like we just sat there but tbf that's what to expect i guess. he was scratching his head about the six minutes of injury time.

i really hope Luton go up, and i'm not just saying this, your fans are a good bunch. also and sorry to be petty but there are various reasons i'm not Oxford's greatest supporter... ...i got time for York mind you.

this is eminently reasonable.

+ amid all the media wailing about the lack of English teams in the CL last four (which i'm naturally loving, embittered manc that i am ;) - apologes to Vim, Tom, Paul Nomos, etc etc ), it's also a fair shout to note that two of the last four in the Europa are English, which is clearly healthy from the PL pov.

Only if you overlook the fact that one of them should've been busy playing with the big boys :(

Fulham aren't ready yet.

true, true. also what Cracker said

but still!

D_Q: a WBA mate of mine says if you go up (he specified Forest, i don't know what he thinks about any of the others, but is he a fan of you) he would consider a big bet on all three promoted teams staying up. (he is more confident about Albion's chances than in previous seasons, R d M seems to have sorted out the defence anyway and they are not doing so much of that admittedly pleasing but ultimately over-reaching and futile pretty football that Mowbray had them doing. if Dorrans goes mind you [some loose talk about - but of course! - City sniffing around *], they could get up to about £12m or so as a fair price i believe, but they wouldn't be able to get anyone as good back w that tbh.)

* presumably anyone w a pulse will be linked to them in the summer.

So, is the key to beating Barca pressing them harder than they press you? Three energetic strikers closing everyone down, like madmen as Biscuits said. So putting CRonaldo, and his lack of tracking back, up front in the final last year was not a very clever tactical move by Ferg.
