Not sure what thread to put this in but I suppose that we need to mention that McCarthy has opened an impeachment investigation into Biden.
This is interesting cos his tweet saying that it's completely unacceptable to do that without a vote is still on his twitter, I think he also sponsored a motion to censor Pelosi for doing that, and so people are saying he's a hypocrite - I actually think that he can say "I said it was wrong but Pelosi did it anyway so why can't I?". It's kinda more relevant that he said a few weeks ago that he wouldn't do it.
The other thing is that they have no evidence and they are trying to use the inquiry to find the evidence they would normally have at this stage.
But in a sense that doesn't matter cos it's pure theatre, they just don't have the votes to remove Biden, but they will be able to say that both Biden and Trump were investigated for impeachment - maybe even that both were impeached depending on how things pan out.
Really it's just muddying the waters cos any complaint that it's just politically motivated with no evidence will be met with the claim that Biden is doing the same to Trump.
Now of course you and I and McCarthy and all the politicians on either side plus the talking heads who will make the argument know full well that there is no equivalence between McCarthy launching a pointless inquiry against a political enemy with no evidence, and a number of real criminal indictments made on the recommendation of neutral grand juries after they were presented with actual evidence, but again that doesn't matter because the arguments are being made for the benefit of people who are too stupid to tell the difference and also those who deliberately refuse to see it.
There's something quite... funny let's say... about people lying and making arguments they know don't work, for the benefit of people who know they are lying but who pretend to believe them anyway.
