dubai is fucked but it's the new york of the 21st century. new money, the new global migrant city. the new order
depends what you stick within your parameters of culture i think. if you're talking about the traditional arts then no there's still basically nothing so far as i know. but then most people in dubai aren't western except for a small quite rich tranche so i wouldn't know like if the africans south asians philipinos have something going on. and then why would you be looking at music films literature anyway it's not where the juice isIs there anything comparable to what was going on culturally in 20th century New York though?

Shaka is guna do his his bit about how mike thurston is the jimi hendrix of our timeI am talking about the traditional arts, yeah. Surely a big part of what made New York into "New York" was all the music, writing, etc. that came out of the city and which drew people to it?
there's a lot of ways to think about it. the angle i'm coming from is as a mad new social phenomenon. migrant cities bashing twenty different cultures together. a human arrangement that hasn't been tried before glued together by all the money in the worldI am talking about the traditional arts, yeah. even i'm sick of writing that tbh but it's just so obviousShaka is guna do his his bit about how mike thurston is the jimi hendrix of our time

yeah sort of but they're old now. old cities. lots of things established and set in stone. and the numbers aren't the same. dubai is at least 90% migrants and most of them moved there in the last 20 yearsAren't London and New York still like that too though?
it's not art but it's where a lot of the energy that used to be in music and films has goneI get the argument, but I don't feel it in my gut. It just doesn't sound right. I'd be more convinced by a claim that art just doesn't matter nowadays than a claim that the new art is this stuff which isn't art, like being a fitness influencer.
