Update | 10:44 a.m. The Iranian-American Web site Tehran Bureau reports on Twitter that a contact in Tehran says:

some forces are refusing to attack the people, but basij and special forces are attacking people

That can't be true.

Although I've just seen it again, but this time acid substituted for boiling water... Some reports claim Mousavi as saying he was "prepared for martyrdom" in his speech. Guardian says: 'There are Twitter accounts claiming that Mousavi has given a speech at Jeyhoon Street in which he said: "We all go back to God." Once again this is difficult to impossible to verify at this stage.'

2 british hostages executed in Iraq - keeping Iran off the news for the moment. Connection? Or were they held by Sunnis?

"acid" probably = tear gas mixed w/H2O yeah? or some other kind of irritant.

other rumors - embassies - British, Irish, Dutch, Italian, Belgian, Spanish, Australian - opened for injured (seems unlikely, but alright), "top army commanders" have refused orders to open fire on protesters (who knows?)

"We all go back to God"?

What the fuck does that mean? Bad translation, perhaps?

Could be interpreted as, 'I am resigned to my fate, I am ready for death', or something along those lines ? It would be an extraordinary thing to say... (if he did say it, of course).

What we know for sure is that he's sent a letter to the Guardian Council detailing the electoral fraud. I don't know if anyone wants to go through it and pull out any substantive points... the translation is almost unreadable.

http://twitter.com/mjbunch - "War going on in South Kargar st. , Tohid Sq., Arya Shahr… in Tohid Sq. people have captured and blown up a police truck" #iranelection

lots of reports that Mousavi has either said he's ready for martyrdom, has bathed ritually for martyrdom, etc etc

so far it sounds like street fighting, albeit particularly violent street fighting - no serious military crackdown yet.

does anyone else feel like this next bit is the make or break? I dunno.

Mousavi (suppposedly) - paraphrasing "washed face in preparation for shahid"

"if I'm arrested the nation is to go on strike indefinitely"

heavy heavy business.
