Iraq - Still, In Fact, Going On

I've seen some real intellectual heavyweights on Twitter calling George Monbiot, of all people, a "war-monger" and all the rest - this is the George Monbiot who campaigned to have Tony Blair arrested for war crimes - because he writes for the Guardian, the Guardian is part of the MSM, and the MSM was apparently pro-war without exception.

George W. Bush misrepresented our work at CIA to sell the Iraq invasion. It's time to call him what he is: 'A liar.'

I mean, it's not wrong, but haven't people been doing this for the last 20 years?

bush's image got sort of rehabilitated over the past few year, I think maybe all the looney MAGAmania made him look better than previously thought in some people's eye. and Cheney's gained favor by spending the past few years backing is daughter as a staunch never trumper.

it's good to have periodic reminders that both of them are in fact evil lying fuckers.

staggering, surprised it hasn’t been pulled, shame it took 20 years to publish

wasn’t expecting such graphic levels of photography and for it to default to more descriptive writing but bang, it ploughs straight in

the presence of absence is pulled front and centre with bloodstained aftermaths and this is the least graphic example (dead kids everywhere ffs, marker penned to flesh to denote shot is beyond shameful), aftermaths too but pushed for time .. the incongruity of the doll’s head adding to the thick air of unrestrained child slaughter

see how the US's dehumanisation of arabs, characterised by wanton uncounted killings, with complete impunity, is playing out in Gaza

Aside from the images themselves, it was the comments of the general that stood out to me. How fucked in the head being institutionalised by the military seems to make some people.

In an oral-history interview for the Marine Corps, in 2014, General Michael Hagee, who was the commandant of the Marine Corps at the time of the Haditha killings, bragged about keeping the Haditha photos secret.

“The press never got them, unlike Abu Ghraib,” Hagee said.

The interviewer, Fred Allison, a Marine Corps historian, interjected, “The pictures. They got the pictures. That was what was so bad about Abu Ghraib.”

“Yes,” Hagee replied. “And I learned from that.” He said, “Those pictures today have still not been seen. And so, I’m quite proud of that.”
