GRIME- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

I sincerely love the energy and enthusiasm that grime done well can produce in people.

That set on Logan's show was fucked as well, by the way. Immense stuff.

Dan i think you hit the nail on the head with the line about chipmunk/maniac etc growing up on dizzee as opposed to tupac and biggie- it's almost exactly what griminal said when I interviewed him for the new Woofah. The older MCs grew up on hiphop, and the ones that have come through in the recent wave grew up on grime, which has a strong anti-hiphop element in its fanbase.

They're the ones who've been disappointed by people like Dizzee and Lethal going and doing records with scrubs like Kate Nash, and I think that the sooner they become the top top boys (Chipmunk is well up there already I think, and Griminal will be soon. Maniac and Young Dot too) in the scene the better. it'll be such good hands with them.

really?

Griminal is the most exciting thing out right now. I'd sign him immediately if I had money.

do you think you'd make money back though?

also you have adamantium...surely that's enough?

newham is definelty holding the crown, tower hamlets got left miles behind...

dead this s*** man. these are places owned by local govt not owned by people - ends reppin' is deadout

griminal doesnt sound all that diff or remarkable compared to a million other grime guys IMO but hes not bad - i really like that 'its a lot' tune... its a lot (ho ho). thats what id like more of. looking forward to that maniac ep... i dont get why more grime artists or producers dont release 12s - adamantium must break even so why others dont do it i dunno. gotta say though, i heard a load of new bassline 12s today and the quality control there is a lot better than in grime. and the songs generally seem better too (one dexplicit bassline/4x4 ep i heard had two really good songs on it).

I know the people who press up 75% of those bassline 4/4 eps. Quality control is not ANYWHERE on their list of things to do.

Anyway, where do i get a Beech-Effect Multimedia Unit? they sound ace.

lol. argos mate, cheap as chips.

i would also second logan's lol about bassline vs grime in terms of quality control. there is so much half-arsed, middling bassline out there, it's a real effing struggle to pick the diamonds out of the dross.

yeah i left myself open to that a bit didn't i? lol. i dunno - obviously grime has always had a reputation for having quality control problems, but i don't think that's really that fair - it usually pertains to the prevelance of low-quality rips, and the fact that obviously *anyone* can, and does, put out a mixtape.

but i've heard shitloads of great grime this year, i think everyone else has too. what else would keep this thread turning over at such a rate?

replace bassline with grime in that last sentence and it still holds true.

I think you might have stopped listening to grime in the summer of 2006.

I can't think of a bad mixtape that's come out in the last few months. And almost anyone's radio show in grime is packed with good shit.

yeah i think i gotta agree.

there aren't enough of these though. rinse slowly seem to be reducing grime to a few djs (while really playing up the funky house). and those djs and logan aside, there's no one else repping really.. westwood? cameo? mak10 and a few others on pyro? grime needs more djs :(

I think part of this reason is because it is near impossible to get guys to send you their tunes as opposed to something like dubstep where producers are more than willing to send any who is willing to play their shit tunes. I know countless dubstep DJs who are quite literally armed to the teeth with dubs from all sorts of underground artists.

In grime it seems like there is a shortlist of DJs (Logan, Spyro, Vectra, and DJs involved with crews) who get all the good shit, and everyone else grasps for straws and plays shit Logan was playing like 2 months ago.

That being said, I haven't tried particularly hard to get tracks, so I'm really going off the impression I get from others. My Sub FM show is at 9 in the morning on a Saturday Canadian time so I haven't really been as enthusiastic about it as I could be. I gotta get back to London :(

i bought quite a few this year but i stopped buying every mixtape for the usual boring reasons of having to sift through them all for the highlights/grime songs... but if youre right, maybe i should buy that chipmunk cd after all....

yeah exactly, those all look utterly dull (i think chipmunk might have good beats but hes just another generic grime MC IMO). i heard swindles cd is good but i have no idea really. i think ill just wait for JMEs album and jammers next mix cd. or just listen to BBK/newham gens/spooky etc radio sets.

someone needs to release some sort of mix-cd of the highlights from all these mix-cds for cheapskates who cant afford to buy them all or dont have the time/patience to listen to 70 mins of each like me.
