listening to The Bits right now nice! bigup bigup! :D

Northside Cheng on the flip is cool too. those are chinese harp samples eh? the mood is quite subtle and indeterminate, mysterious, non-specific... willow tree swaying in moon-light type shit... :D

hey fella, it's a kind of Chinese zither called The Cheng. both tracks are made from them, hence why i wanted to put them out together. bigup.

I think it's funny that the only rolling threads that seem to still be active are grime and cricket. Message boards make for odd bedfellows...
Don't get me started! I was upset when the reggae one was locked but accepted it because they were "all" being locked...and the reason given was that a number of good grime posts were being made so this rolling thread idea was not working. So this was the one that was left open! :D

I've just ordered the 12" from Boomkat. Is it on digital release anywhere? I'm impatient now plus I can never be bothered to rip vinyl so end up buying it twice! And they call us p2p users thieves...;)

Sometime way, way back, I came across a post asking why nobody's making meta-mixtapes - cutting out all of the filler tunes from the regular artist/crew mixtapes in order to get things a little closer to album-quality listen.

I recently attempted this - I've got a bunch of friends who haven't heard grime since Dizzee's second LP and can't be bothered to follow the scene. So I pulled 20+ tapes, skimmed the fat, and mashed it together in Live. I think it's a pretty good listen and I thought I might share.

i'm gonna keep saying it, but chipmunk's fire, alie?

such a cheap video, such a great song. that beat is just colossal, and chipmunk is clearly star material.

he sounds too young for me. but he is good. that beat is quite garagey. hmm.

dizzee and DEE on rinse made my night. so many sick beats. some of dizzees newer bars dont really work as well as the older ones, or maybe its that theyre just not as good, but the flex lyrics sounded brilliant :). hope newham gens do finally release something next month.

Even though I love that tune, it doesn't even come close to showcasing what a good MC Chipmunk is. When you listen to something like him clashing Griminal on that Unique set at the end of summer; he's got this amazing tone to his voice when he gets really into it, like the youthful chirpiness just goes and he sounds so hungry.

He's released three solo mixtapes and three joint ones, he's already one of the biggest MCs on radio and he's sixteen. So long as he stays in the game, he's just going to get better and better- he could be right up with Skepta in a couple of years.
