maybe... obviously it's nice to get 10+ tunes for cheap, but i'm not sure i really see the point of a 'dance music album'.
i think even when producers just make a load of good tracks to go on an album, a good album is made by the thought put into the sequencing etc. A good example is the Melchior Productions album from last year. It's only 8 tracks or so, pretty much all of them dancefloor fodder, yet its got a really nice flow to it that makes it a good album and not just a collection of tracks. I don't think the distinction is really outdated, I always prefer listening to something with a bit of cohesion. If you're gonna just make a bunch of good tracks put out two EPs.
it just doesn't affect the way most people listen to music though. if you digitise its likely they'll get played in random order, or you'll leave out weaker tracks when converting. if djing you aren't going to follow their sequencing anyway. seems like a quaint idea to me, but each to his own.
and the cynical award for thursday Jun 12 2008 goes to mms.

I read what Blackdown had to say about this as well and I thought he had a bit of a point.
In a way the problem with it is the same thing that makes it appeal - how it's an almost definitively tasteful amalgam of current cool club music.
