more rage against the machine, i think... whatever, it's pretty terrible and disapointing...

I thought more of that wasteman NME fave Credit to the Nation....I don't think it's terrible at all but it is very disappointing when you think this is the man (boy even...!) who gave us 'Boy in the Corner' just four years ago...then again that had 'Fix Up, Look Sharp' (which was OK but didn't fit in with the rest of the album and I always skip it - they should've swapped that for 'Vexed').

Get the Derkhead/Tropical double CD, it's full of quality.

agreed. worth it for tropical alone, tho derkhead's got some bangers too.

i ordered ny, trim, and seb zero (from south agents/hazzardous) weeks ago from ukrecorshop, and they've still not been sent cos the latter's been held up. so, er, wait before ordering zero's one is my advice. shd be good though.. southside crews have been slipping on the mixtape front.

listening to logan without the rolling news feed of the rwd forum thread is oddly disconcerting. i feel like i need that supplement of ppl arguing over every track as they're played.. it's a great bit of web 2.0 that. do you have time to read it while yr on air logan? i swear the thread reached 40 odd pages about a recent show. ... damn, there's no 'surprised' emoticon... :(

fairly recently there was a bit of animosity on here towards mala and his attitude towards grime, in that interview in dummy magazine (I think it was there anyway). blackdown recently posted the whole thing - makes what he said a lot clearer. no hate or anything, it's just they're on a different vibe

blackdownsoundboy.blogspot.com

"L: When we first got into dubstep, Pokes wasn’t in it.

M: The first time he came in, was when we did [Rephlex’s] Grime party at The End.

L: And we had to hassle him! “Come on bruv, just host it for us, please. Don’t chat, just intro it.” And he was like “It’s strange but I just don’t think you should chat to this music.” We really had to twist his arm.

B: It could have been so different.

L: I think Pokes is a big, big part of DMZ. Because it needs a vocal aspect. But I think it’s not that lyrically driven. If you want lyrically driven, go to a grime rave. We have our thing which isn’t lyrically driven. It’s not better or worse, it’s just not that.

M: Strickly good vibes. You’re coming into our house man."

listened to that dizzee/arctics song again today. i think it would have been way better if they didnt get him to do a verse, but just remix one of their songs. or maybe even produce something for them.

I just realised that

True Tiger are the Stargate of the scene

...

take that however you want I guess

whatever happened to Eskiboy clothing and Black Ops wear and its spinoffs? I remember Cash had jackets and Wiley said he had nearly finished but that was what...3 years ago lol?

Loefah had an Are You Dumb? T shirt that he wore alot for a while - then i never saw them again, you see BBK ones all the time - i see WILEY stickers in freezy ice pole letter style around Shoreditch still alot, they have been there for years. Its lovely to see them about, like hearing a classic eski-beat

<logan sama> "wiley plans don't last longer than 30 days" </logan sama> lol.

loefah's are you dumb shirt is a neckle camp number, it's still available on dubplate.net i think. i want a bbk tropical shirt but i'm not sure i can pull it off (pink and baby blue)

cheers for that dmz post ben. i've still got my prejudices, but fair play... i'm thinking back to the time when pokes had essentially proposed the notion 'thou shalt not combine grime mc-ing with dmz riddims, it shall not be done'... a lot of people seemed to agree with pokes on dsf, there was a sense that combining grime mcs and dubstep tunes was ok in some circumstances - most often-quoted being newham generals - but that dmz beats were sacred.

mr nine i remember chimed in with something to the effect of 'bollocks, let someone good mc over a coki beat and tell me it doesn't sounds heavy' ... this attitude exemplifies why he's pretty much the only dubstep dj i would go out of my way to see at the moment.

FRIDAY 27th April @ 93 FEET EAST

It’s festival time again and we’re sure that watching bands in a big muddy field with Michael Eavis for a few days is probably a whole lot of fun, but imagine if you took all those bands and turned them into amazing DJ’s and bands? What if the STYLESLUT peeps told everyone to dress like a ‘Hood-Rat’ by wearing oversized new era hats and way too much jewellery to show the world that hood rats are actually rather nice people? Yeah. What if……..

god bless you for putting on good music, but this is a bad look...

I ain't got a problem with this, but I wonder what old Logan would say about this if he wasn't being paid to play...
no diss lads but 'hoodrats need love too' and ironic 'hood' clothing...it don't smell good...patronising perhaps? minstrel show? props for putting on some grime though.

The theme was not constructed to be patronising or offensive. Who really claims to be a ‘Hood-Rat’ with pride, anyways? What is a ‘Hood-Rat’ when you break it down?

It’s really just meant to be fun. Don't take it as serious social commentary. Many people would say that ‘Hood-rats’ are unsavoury characters or that they all look a certain way etc - if anything we’re patronising the people that cultivate and believe these silly stereotypes.

Disscus.?

i'll happily discuss. styleslut come over like condescending shoho wankers (i'm not saying they are, but they definitely come over like that), but fuck it: they're putting on a show, and i'm not, so props to them. i'll go along, dance my ass off, and try to ignore the glare reflecting off their ironic gold chains.

...

mr ufo: as it goes alex told me you and david were doing radio shows and a label and everything, and i was meaning to try and catch some of that! i really enjoyed you guys b2b at redstar that one time. so cheers, will d/l when i get home from work.

I just dont know
"It’s really just meant to be fun. Don't take it as serious social commentary"

surely thats not the accusation... rather serious social commentary is being made regarding what is perceived as 'fun'...?

"Many people would say that ‘Hood-rats’ are unsavoury characters or that they all look a certain way etc - if anything we’re patronising the people that cultivate and believe these silly stereotypes"

sounds like fraf to me. when did irony become so thoughtless? maybe im just being uptight
