Favourite Music Theft Blogs

most sensible artists selling under 20 000 are happy you are downloading their tracks. maybe it's already been mentioned but 1 download does not equal 1 lost sale. mp3's shouldn't even be sold imo.

I will always buy, beg for, borrow, steal, trade, download, dig in dusty neglected shelves of libraries for, record off the radio, record off youtube, digitize old cassettes for music whether i can or can not afford the money or time.

and anyone who thinks they occupy a superior moral position because they don't download can go suck their mum.

This ^^^^

Correct, but it's not theft either.

Actually I said 'probably' because artists may indirectly benefit from record shops staying open through money made from second-hand sales.

Downloading illegally bypasses the whole system whereas buying second-hand needn't necessarily.

What's the legality of putting mixes up on t'net?

I guess that copying music to one's ipod might be illegal. Hmm.

I always buy as much music as I can afford and I download stuff that I can't.
I don't see how anyone loses out of that situation

Well, anyone you downloaded who you would otherwise have bought (the week, month, year after) would lose out.

Smaller artists may also tend to lose out more than bigger ones through your approach, as any music that you fail to find for purchase (which music is more likely to be niche) once the pay cheque comes through you would then download - bigger artists' work is more likely to be available and you may not be running a queue by which obscure purchases are put on hold for later.

But I wouldn't have bought those things I would have bought newer more exciting things that had just come out when I had money

This conversation was boring the first 100 times we had it.

Everyone shut the fuck up and

post favorite download blogs.

that is what this thread is about.

Even here, smaller artists would still be more likely to lose out, as their work is less likely to be available to buy when you are looking. One would firstly fail to find a satisfactory way to pay for the work, then buy something else with the money that would otherwise have been spent on the work and then download the work because it wasn't available. So, the artist loses the opportunity of a sale by virtue of being small-time (eg. not having good distribution that would have their work available when you are looking for it)

This debate is old, Zhao's right.

Regarding illegality, you're not worth shit if you haven't had some sort of 'desist' notice from William Bennett in the 2000s.

i havent bought a cd or record for years and years, probably the last music i bought was some cassettes in egypt about 3 or 4 years back...
since then i have downloaded 1,000s of mp3s, from blogs & forums, mostly it's been foreign music, stuff that's not released in uk, but probably some of that is available for purchase - i don't really worry tbh. sometimes i'll give it a rest for a few months, often if i have no opportunity to listen much, but if i didnt download, i still wouldnt buy stuff.
i did used to buy some records as a youth, but the best stuff was always on tapes from mates, for free obviously.
i also have compounded my misdemeanor by upping stuff as an mp3 blogger

am i a bad person?
