My Bloody Valentine thread

Don't worry swears, there's plenty of time between now and June for the usual shenanigans to take place. It's already started - the mbv website says tickets should go on sale today...

Interesting (to me) that the day I bumped an Andrew Weatherall thread this was also bubbling. My favourite dancefloor smashing Weatherall remix was the one of My Bloody valentine's "Soon" (on youtube). I was trying to have a pilled up conversation with Bobby Gillespie after he came off stage once when we heard Weatherall drop this and without a word both made a run for the dancefloor. :)

The first part of the interview is up on youtube. I can't get the vbs player or whatever it is to work properly.
LOL @ Svenonius introduction.

nice interview, but Svenonius' patented non-sequitur curve-balls can be annoying: "Mystery Train, Yellow Submarine, rock is obsessed with modes of transport, and yours is the glider - why is that?" :slanted: (tho' it does lead to an interesting debate where Shields says being eco-conscious is just a con to prevent the eco-collapse of capitalism, and that we should pollute as much as possible!). Interesting also to hear him describe shoegaze as representing everything they were trying not to do!

Not holding my breath, but looking forward to hearing the new/old stuff (most of which is from the mid-90s). Though the Lost In Translation s-t doesn't hold out much promise of innovation.

At last!

Like the bit in part two of that interview when Shields compares the way he shapes guitar sounds to blowing cigarette smoke into new shapes. Great analogy for MBVs sound...

That Ian Shvenonious is what we people in Australia would call a fucking dickhead, or old-Jewish men would call a gunser noodnik

Dreadful, sucky interview.

so what do we get then- does anybody have any idea- new stuff or golden oldies?

TBH, i got so excited about their reappearence that i didn't notice the link to ATP who of course specialise in those dont look back efforts which really suck- i hate canonising music as classic and doing these full-album playbacks- its just desperate nostalgia.

I really hope that this is a continuation of the band- new songs- i will be mightily fucking disappointed to find that this is some greatest hits repackage but i would also be very surprised. I loved this band so much but have no interest in going for back-in-the-day shenanigans.

From that review...

For this re-release, Loveless comes as a 2-CD set, comprising a straightforward remastering job and a new version, “remastered from analogue tapes” by Kevin Shields. The new version sounds richer, slightly warmer - but the differences are so subtle, that might just be the air currents in my room - and I have no idea what justifies the double disc.

I don't get it. Is the second disc a remix rather than a remaster or what? Its strange that for a record that was slaved over for so long to reach perfection (and it just about gets there IMO) Shields has decided to remix the whole thing again. And what about all the stuff they recorded back in the day that they didn't finish off, I thought they were supposed to be releasing that? I wouldn't mind remastered versions of the early Creation EPs cos they're not widely available. I wish he'd make his bloody mind up. This new release does seem a bit pointless and underwhelming.
