there is no dj Hitek, it's a name for the various producers who have done production for them. tbh it all reminds me of devvo but not as funny or good.

maybe look at the people who did production on all his other projects? max normal, constructus corporation, etc..

SO what do you all think of this "uk juke"? sorry if this has been trod on a great deal, i'm new here and this thread is 77 pages. feel free to tell me to fuck off to whatever pages of the thread contain the discussion.

here is the latest example i'm aware of
http://trackitdown.net/genre/dubstep/track/2625816.html

i just feel this is "juke" by dubstep producers for dubstep heads at dubstep tempo, easily mixable by dubstep DJ's -- and crucially -- with the blackness factored out. it isn't bad, in fact it's preferable to the plodding brostep that dominates dubstep parties the last couple years. but it just seems like such a superficial whitewash of what's really vital and exciting and, well, radical about footwork. i find it kind of depressing actually.

except the guy's from new york, and makes diplo-esque, all sorts music. and terms like factored and whitewash makes it seem quite deliberate & cunning, when its probably just the opposite.

there's a lot of juke influenced music from non-juke artists on the horizon. some of it will work really well (like girl unit), some will be interesting and odd (salem?), and most will be slightly shit. Isnt that what always happens when a radical new genre appears. I dont see a need to get so srs about it, yet, unless people confusing it with real juke.

is that always what happens? with reggae and hiphop (for example) the originators of the music had their day before it started getting hybridized like crazy. i think that's key to establish what the music is really about -- or the true stuff may get marginalized or lost.

we've actually had this conversation waaaaaay back, but no worries. for the juke guys, it's not something that they haven't already been dealing with for the longest. there's plenty of shitty juke producers, and plenty of aspiring producers that just sound like second-rate rip offs, either look on soundcloud, or look on rashad's videos, and you'll see him tagged in a plethora of bulshit. he's polite enough not to say anything, i however, am not. but the uk scene gives chicago a bit of fresh air as to how they can play around with the sound.

and the uk guys are nice enough to stay in contact with us, and are more than accomodating to make sure that we get their shine alongside them. There is more than enough space for everyone, and as long as individuals like Ramadanman, headhunter, Planet Mu, and Night Slugs keep showing us love, there is nothing but love!

there have also always been people in the uk releasing and playing juke and ghettotech music, mixing it up with more uk styles etc since the 90's to be fair
the love affair with jukes not a new thing.

dj guy http://www.djguy.info/wp/ dmx krews breakin records, cutlass supreme andrea parker etc all been doing it for years, all have invested in the music and built their sounds too.

not sure if this has actually happened or happens, its always a push and pull

also you can call some really great music - juke for instance - a kind of hip hop hybrid, and its been around for years too.

for sure the gestation periods of new genre is astonishingly short nowadays, and that has its own problems.
but its been like that for all new music for most of this decade, and the only fix would be to turn off the internet.

personally i wouldn't even spend energy lamenting it, as there's just nothing that can be done to change it. what could be changed is underground scenes stop whoring themselves to attain self-defeating 'big'-ness, ie doing a dubstep - but i dont think thats a danger in juke's case?

I remember Mike asking about ecstacy a while back so why not bring back one of the most amazing rave tracks of all time to the front of UK society.

And on that note.....

It'll only be digital, but part 2 comes 2 months after that, and it'll be 16 tracks of vinyl goodness.

Until then, enjoy what I give, muwahahahahahahaha
