Right, well now people have discussed this to death..

What is hot right now in the melting pot?

Whistla's L2S recording's project is doing alot to re-define garage at the moment, some really good stuff coming from his label at the moment, dawntreader, M2J etc..

Blunted Robots - Am very excited for this label, the 1st release was a winner & if they carry on releasing the same strain, im buying..

Hotflush 2 - With Sigha starting off the year in style & Now the untold & roska ting flying off the shelves, hotflush 2 are also a pick of the pot....

Nah Alex this thread is for complaints / rose tinted reminiscing only. 'Why dubstep is actually rather good' goes in the dubstep thread.

And surely the default answer to this kind of question is "When you got into it". Oooh burn.

L2S is the one, I'm biased as I'm on the next release though. As for community spirit, its definitely strong in Bristol - you see pretty much everyone who produces the stuff down at Dubloaded on a wednesday night.

The smoking ban & metal terminology are the 2 biggest changes I've noticed, glad that everythings crosspollinating with everything else atm...

since fwd got good again (i.e. when it moved to sundays) i see as many familiar faces down pp every week as 05 days... genre cross-pollination ftw.

Yes, it's on and it's happening. Funky showed the way and it chimed in with a big element of where the best dubstep people - producers, DJs and punters - were going anyway. But the thing is we don't have to give up on dubstep. Quite the reverse. It's part of the venn diagram that describes the new territory that's opening up.

Funnily enough, some of the more forward-thinking producers are really into metal/hardcore (Littlefoot, Kuma, Ikonika?), probably moreso than most of the "dEfFsTeP sIkKoZzZz".

That Fabric Live Caspa and Rusko mix in Dec 2007 was the one for me. Kind of feelgood, uplifting, easy skanking dubstep.

ag, it was awful

i picked my uni aged sister up from town last night and was listening to a recent rinse podcast and they mentioned 'why not? - a dubstep festival' (i was listening to rekless. go me) and she said "dubstep? are you a stoner?"

so it's definitely lost the plot.

It's definitely getting/got a bad image to me.
I was talking to a friend who used to promote a house night at the Hacienda during the 90s in the pub last night and we were discussing how back then there was a general feeling of euphoria around clubbing. We then agreed that Dubstep has really sound tracked the feeling of immorality, darkness and paranoia in the latter part of this decade and that it is now no longer relevant. Rusko and Caspa and the "ravier" crew have jumped in seemingly unaware of this kind of theory along with music to match. Times are changing and we are moving away from that dark sound. Funky and bassline are much more appropriate to the way the world is heading and they'd be better off making these styles rather than making the functional soul-less tunes they play. The cutting edge innovative producers move on but ever since the internet got popular you see these lager/stoner-boy producers hijacking the remains of scenes (dnb/dubstep) so they can have a career in music without really taking any risks or being creative. The commercial media is manned with similarly mindless people who connect with these sheep and keep the general pace of the populace's mindset frustratingly slow.

bandz ahoy
Could you post up a decent bassline mix continuum? I quite like some tunes I've heard but I hardly see how much of it could be described as any less 'functional' and 'soulless' than the average Rusko tune.

It is depressing how clubbing/raving has become so neutered and commercialised... then again perhaps that's just me talking, I remember when I first got into pills/DNB I did feel a sense of ''this is what my life should be about'' whenever I was gurning my tits off and skanking to the latest epileptic fit anthem.

Good bassline mixes are few and far between at the moment but this is decent:
