who knows...
re: zomby hype

i guess i just dont get it. his tunes are real hit or miss for me. i bagged the first one on ramp, but grew old of it pretty quick (actually convinced a friend to trade me ital001 for it). didn't bother with the hyperdub one due to songs being 2-3 mins long (waste of 2x12" vinyl when they could have all been on one...am i missing something?) and there's only 1 or 2 off the new ep/lp that i really get into...dunno just not my thing really i guess.

do his tunes actually go off in the club? apart from the spliff dub (rustie rmx) nothing of his i've ever played out has gotten that great of a response (maybe it's a midwest isolation thing?).

also...

there seems to be this growing consensus in my town that heavy metal wobble = end all be all of dubstep. (which to me is much more troublesome then some typical renoylds flame bait) it's driving me nuts. a buddy was playing some stuff and i overheard some kid go "what's up with this deep house i thought he was a dubstep dj?" nothing i seem to do really seems to cause any change either...my night gets next to nothing support wise either... *grumble*grumble* : (

You don't understand, zomby is burial. Used to be in SPK years ago and played bass in the nephilim to pay the rent before Carl fucked off to the OTO. Sad fucker actually started liking the music eventually.

You don't think kode would put out that lot of old toot if he hadn't already made a mint off the burial CDs? He's indulging him in the hope he'll produce another golden egg. Some chance.

He's a hard business man is that fella.

Na same here, they don't have the rhythmic oomph to move people in a club for the most part, his tunes seem to occupy a place where they can clearly slip in alongside garage or dubstep but have 'spaced out' a bit more, but still aren't headfuck enough to keep me interested full length, they get an initial 'wtf' but wear out quickly.. his drums are a bit flat tbh.. still i do enjoy a splash of his stuff dropped when i'm out, Strange Fruit, Float and the Rustie remix.

Ramadanman has been dropping "Gloop" in his sets (albeit with a grime vocal), went off when I saw him

zomby stuff goes off; strange fruit in partic, comes alive on a system.... hearing kode drop it last year at PP was what made me "get" zomby , as it were.

I'm surprised at all this drama over Zomby though. Perhaps it's because he's 'big' or something?

All I'm saying is, for all the Zomby detractors, I don't see how he's any worse than say... Ikonika. Call me crazy, but she fell off HARD after the first single. All of these little synthesizer swoons beneath pretty dinky rhythms. The Phonelines (VIP) brought me back, but still... I'd say her stuff is more redundant. But probably because she's quiet, less of a prima dona than Zomby, she gets less critique.
