im pretty sure dbridge & instramental weren't calling it slowed down dnb. i think they've been supporters for a while now.

id also hardly say it's the new dnb sound. there's probably 3-4 labels that are even releasing this stuff and i dont think too many big djs are even playing it.

and the half step dnb thing is nothing new at all...digital and amit have been doing it for a decade.

I admit I'm enough out of the loop that halfstep dnb seems relatively new to me, but I'd still guess that dubstep played a big part in people like Breakage, etc picking it up. at this point I'd say it's as much dubstep as Joy Orbison and all the post-sub-future-garage genres... tho I'm curious and would love to hear some early halfstep dnb stuff if you could find a link or two?

re: slow dnb - specifically I saw the entire LA dnb crowd convert to dubstep over the course of 6 months between 06 and 07.. I'm just poking fun at those folks, as opposed to people like Juju, Dbridge, Breakage and the lot who did stellar things with dnb, dubstep, or anywhere in between.

a few youtube with some Icelandic blabbering, most of those artists have done a fair bit of halftempo dnb stuff, youtube around

I would say that halfstep dnb predates dubstep doing it (Deadline by Digital is from 01 I think, Amit started out in 02 or 03, two artists who are worth checking to see how this vibe developed btw). But after dubstep got popular, there was a explosion halfstep type dnb and everybody started doing it, dunno if the two are directly related but I would imagine that dubstep had an effect on dnb at that time (which is why Horror Show is featured as a bonus track in that link).

However I would say there is a difference between the recent dBridge / Instra:mental type halfstep dnb and the older more dubby type stuff by guys like Amit, Breakage and Digital. The former is more minimal, the sound pallete is more techno & electro influenced and they tunes aren't as hard and (obviously) dance floor friendly imo.

Pretty much everything I've heard says DMZ were robbed. I wonder what system were they using?
Sounds like a pretty fun night all round.

who knows...
anyone else catch the youtube clip of GQ saying "if it weren't for trojan there'd be no dubstep!"

l o l .

strange too that goldie & headz would pick Caspa to go up against DMZ. you didn't see DMZ getting Remarc to clash. kinda defeats the purpose.

seems the headz camp couldn't handle Pokes and got all offended. also suprised Bailey would call him a "pussy hole." he's always seemed like a level headed dude.

but whatever i wasn't there so i really shouldn't be commenting in the first place ; )

i went to the soundclash night.. i wasn't expecting it to be that good to be honest.. only went cos a i got a chance freebie ticket.

it was actually fuckin quality tho. :)

DMZ were definitely using Dirt soundsystem and it sounded sick. loads of weight.

poax was on truly top form.. slaughtered metalheadz camp all night. cussed jazzie b for playing off CDs..

soul II soul were quality aswell. played loads of old wookie beats - Battle, Little Man remix etc

good night really. DMZ smashed it. although Mala is in such a different league to Coki, both as a DJ and producer. coki really can't mix at all can he?

and yeah why did metalheadz get caspa? seems really weird. he dropped hyph mngo. went off.

not really ever seen him live, but from the vids & few radio mixes i always thought coki just played stuff from the top and let it roll, most if not all of his tunes only have like 16/32 bar intros...

lol @ caspa dropping hyph mngo

what was the DMZ selection on the night? anything new?
