cheers cracker

not just for the sake of D_Q (though that helps) i cannot emphasis enough how much i want Forest go up. i like Holloway and his team, but if Forest do go on to the final can't say i'm a massive fan of Leicester.
Cardiff are alright i suppose and it would be cool to have a Welsh team in the mix. (i don't really think given the umbilical nature of Anglo-Welsh footy and the history it would buttress Old Firm claims in any sensible manner. i don't want the Old Firm in the Prem incidentally, just saying.)

also i am not one of these people who moans about teams w small fanbases being in the Prem, but there is something so effortlessly right about having all four of England's European Cup winners in the top flight.

bravo Barrow and gutted for Grimsby, one hundred proud years of League history now gone and people who have never given the town or its club a thought in their lives are probably sneering down their cornflakes this morning at it because of a few (fair few, tbf) idiot travelling fans.

(sorry that reads rather political!!)

Stockport County fans are ace and i feel sorry that Sale rugby union mess up their pitch although clearly Sale's wealthy owner (and moneyed mid-Cheshire support base) have put a lot of money into the set-up there. though i hear Sale are off to Leigh rugby league, which would be better for all concerned.

County fans refer to City as bitters (a term i'm familiar w via United) and United fans as 'dungas' (as in the Brazilian i assume). that was a new one on me (the de rigeur City term for United fans is rags, but dunga is brilliant). their fanzine is class too.

bu can the ivory coast utilise te fact that they have possibly the bes forward line on the planet right now? hope so - will be good for the game in the long run if an African team can finally make a big impact (even leaving aside the location of the tournament). I think Ghana would have done last time if they hadn't been a bit unlucky (IIRC) vs Brazil.

29 goals in 32 pl starts this season, 36 in 43 in all comps.

messi 49 in 52

both are phenomenal. world cup will be ace.

oh my stars

still loving the Fulham-inspired tactical chats and articles from a few pages ago. deffo supporting them against the relatively aristocratic At Madrid. (beside which my Spanish team is Getafe.)

is Essien going? hasn't he been touch and go?

i was pretty livid watching that Brazil match, IIRC the scoreline really, really did flatter the boys in yellow. the Aussies give the Brazilians a good knock in Germany too IIRC.

incidentally i am moving to London in the summer and if any Ldn-based fans are bothered, i may try and pester people to take me a game of their club in the southeast next season if anyone is arsed (you know, your Brightons and Norwiches and Wednesdays etc, i am not talking United, Chelsea etc!).

he's in the 30 man provisional squad. i remember him and Appiah being immense in midfield last time. i thought appiah might come to the prem/la liga after that (did he? just checked and he plays for bologna now).

as to the wednesday game, you're on... last time i saw wednesday in london (a lifetime ago) they won a cup game in the last three minutes, so, er, i wouldn't even expect it to live up to that!

just remembered how incredible zidane was vs brazil. not enough is made of how utterly incredible that performance was.

i was having a weird stoned night in camden that night, so don't remembe the game well..but looks v good:

wasn't better than the '86 game, was it? that was a cracker....

edit: it's nice to look back and think his rep hasn't suffered due to the matterazzi incident. it was stupid, but in the sense that France needed him to stay on and take a pen, rather than that the italian didn't deserve it.

- bizarre but enjoyable.

Maradona's left Zanetti and Cambiasso out but found places for Coloccini and Jonas Gutierrez

What a plum

fulham did so well through the competition, but didn't really deserve it tonight. never mind, forlan is a class act, lucky though he was for one(both?) of the goals.

Yeah, Fulham were hard working and well organised but when Zamora came off they didn't really have anything going forward. Thought Dempsey would have been more dangerous when he came on
