No, it'd make it fresh or current Juke.
Only unmade Juke is future Juke.

its a totally crap and misleading name

why can't you call it dubstep - just because dubstep has had slight developments within it's template that doesn't warrant a new genre every 5 minutes.

The Nuum's always had a thing for "futurisms" though (as does society at large) - call it commodity fetishism or whatever. Having the first or being the first is a very aspirational thing, and I think that flows on to music, especially when DJs are involved.

What have we had so far? Halfstep, Breakstep, Wonky, Brostep...

They're hardly as codified as the definitions between the various factions of Drum and Bass, although if it was equally pigeon-holed at the same time in it's respective lifespan since inception I'm not sure: depends too much on when you start the clock.

but who cares and all that futurisms stuff is bluff and bluster really.
why would you call dubstep 'future juke' it's not juke so calling it future juke is just a thick thing to do, people will call it dubstep, you can call it future juke.
maybe it would be better to call it a handful of tracks that have been released on swamp81 so far that have been inspired by juke.

future juke.

"future" juke as a term smells like "intelligent" jungle, with all the class and race undertones that implies. "it's like juke but... y'know, done right..."

future garage feels less pejorative only because it's core proponents are so reverent to garage but then that is exactly my concern with future garage as some kind of movement, that while i'm happy people are downing the wobble and upping the groove factor, future garage is currently neither "garage with new ideas" nor "like old garage but better".

"future garage" may be reverential of old 2step but it still seems like these new producers are missing a lot of the subtleties of what made it great.

it's like squarepusher may have been into jungle, but you can't help but feel it went over his head somewhat..

Dusty

Tone deaf
I don't. To suggest he didn't get jungle because he didn't fit in with the scene or didn't attempt to make 'real' jungle is to misunderstand his attempts to subvert, or at least take the piss out of it - as childish as that may have been. His music is that of the outsider looking in, part homage, part mockery. Knowingly so.

well whatever you call it, the middle ground/crossroads is really exciting right now

I swear Loefah has become one of the most exciting DJ's to check (again)
the new Swamp tracks & more percussive/driving Hessle/Pips/Hemlock/Ramadanman sound he is pushing is so dope

anyone catch the stream of him & Oneman from the Boiler Room on tuesday night?
They have just upped the set, Oneman/Reecha/Jon Rust B2B then Loefah starts from about 45 mins

As soon as you start trying to give it a name, you start limiting it.

I dunno, you can't really expect people to stop thinking about and trying to conceptualise their relationship to music, which is what giving up naming altogether seems to entail to me. I think for me what's more important is using names that are accurate and productive in terms of conveying the key features that listeners respond to in a style of music and which differentiate it from other styles of music.

Edit: sorry, straight away I can see that that's are fairly waffly & unhelpful post. But I do feel that there's something not quite right with the 'names are always limiting' position.

Sick Boy

All about pride and egos
I only really find categorization limiting and pointless when the genre is either attached perjoratively (e.g. "brostep") or reactively in a way to self-consciously push an aesthetic agenda that is more often than not a conceit of the artists themselves rather than fulfilling any kind of descriptive purposes (e.g. "deep" dubstep, "IDM", "future garage", etc.)

Yeah. I don't expect people to stop using names. It's natural to want to arrange and identify things. I can only speak for myself. What to call music doesn't even come into my head unless someone else mentions it.

It's marketing, mostly.
