Wow, this looks amazing Rudewhy, looking forward to going through this properly, dont know most of these. You got any mixes to go with it?

My personal fave is G.O.D. - Watch ya bass bins. Absolute monster. Possibly in your top three?

I've swapped the 'Hold Your Head Up High' video for one that isn't blocked in the UK - if there are any other videos in this thread that aren't accessible in the UK, let me know and I'll try and swap them

Lash Larou - Gonna Do (Mix 1)

One day we’ll all be free
One day we’ll all be free
One day we’ll all be free

That sample, riding on top of those ’93-esque darkcore stabs, tears my heart to shreds everytime. I used to own a physical of this but sold it for £100 - another regret. Unlike a lot of the white labels on this list, you can download the MP3 from Juno etc.

Gina G - Every Time I Fall (Gina's Dub (Todd Terry Mix)) aka G.O.D. - Unlimited (Todd Terry Dub)

Christ, where to begin. Sounding like nothing else on this list, this one illustrates the direction that Speed Garage could have taken post-1998 by shunning the overused to the point of parody Ragga samples and Jungle basslines. I'd love to know the full history of this track - it appears to be an officially sanctioned Todd Terry remix of Eurovisioner Gina G's 'Every Time I Fall' but somehow it ended up released simultaneously without any reference to the Gina G track on Nice 'N' Ripe's G.O.D. sub-label. God knows how or why this happened (maybe it was was an attempt to reclaim some underground credibility for the track?) but you can pick up the Gina G pressing for a fraction of the price of the G.O.D. pressing. I also believe this was the only Speed Garage track Todd Terry produced himself rather than enrolling the likes of Loop Da Loop for remix duties. Unlike the vast majority of the rest of this list, this this one remained a favourite of London based DJs throughout UKG's heyday and into the Dark Garage period - there's a Slimzee set from 2001 or 2002 somewhere that I will try and locate where you get to experience Pay As You Go MCing over it. The definition of a weapon.

Todd Terry presents Shannon - It's Over Love (Loop Da Loop Dark Crystals Mix)

"Hang on a minute, haven't we already heard this one?" I hear you say. Well, no - this is the 'Dark Crystals Mix' made available exclusively on the US pressing, and boy does it live up to that name. This track has it all - laser gunshots, rave stabs, dream inducing pads, the ubiquitous 'badbwoy' vocal sample, random sound effects including a car horn being blasted in an urban underpass in the dead of night, and an amen filled breakdown that could have been lifted straight out of a Grooverider circa '92 set. All of this is overridden with the 'It's Over Now' vocal in it's entirety, which propels the track into that category of dance music that can only evoke feelings of distraught, melancholic heartbreak following the collapse of an ecstasy-tinged relationship. I must have first come across this one on youtube soon after discovering the UK pressing and it's possible that it was this record which first made me aware of the existence of discogs as I can remember the feeling of disappointment upon realising that there were no copies of this available to buy outside of the US. I spent years searching for this record (including spending an entire afternoon digging in the A-1 Record Shop in East Village when I visited New York in 2010, alas to no avail) and eventually tracked down a copy for sale from an ex-Niche Nightclub resident in 2013. An absolute masterpiece - 10/10.

Thank you all - I've taken an awful lot from this forum over the years and never given much input so I'm really pleased to see the sharing of this music has been well received

Fantastic tune. NM copies of it for $2 on Discogs! There's something special about tunes with dark crystal in the title.

Great list mate, that Roger Ruff is an all time classic. Although my tastes these days def skirt more to the freak fm/KMA productions end of things. i have about 20 gb of sheffield mixes but most of them are all untagged split tracks, joy of joys...

might see if I can knock up a post-95 dnb list soon - although my trouble is there's inevitably going to be way too much to dig through. The sheer thought alone of sitting on 8 hours of discogs daily sifting through identiket 2step tunes to find the future technological nugget buried amongst the crud is horrifying rn.

but there is good stuff in the crates for sure.

Nice one geeza - if there are any tracks in your Sheffield mixes you require ID'd, let me know. A post-95 D&B list would be great, you should definitely crack on with that
