Still not following you. Maybe we are talking at cross purposes. Feels like some link between what you are saying and what I am saying has gone missing somewhere

If someone understands why they might need therapy, it will make said therapy more effective long term. Understanding yourself is the key, the bridge and why we use life mapping techniques. By understanding your past, you gain insight into your current state of being/mind.

By understanding the processes involved during therapy, which can be communicated in as many different ways as there are clients, you begin to forge new engagements with the world as the sessions progress. If a client understands rudimentary dialectics they can self care more effectively.

By becoming an archaeologist of your own psyche, with the support of a T, you trowel out the shit that’s getting in the way of an uncluttered life.

Not haranguing anyone for haranguing’s sake.

Oh right, yeah that's the idea. I'm saying it doesn't always work like that. It can work in other ways and often does.

Sure. You go to therapy and something in your life, something stuck, finally budges and gives you forward motion again. This is not preceded or caused by any revelation or insight.

Therapy would get zero traction and funding if this were customarily the case. The whole reason for the success of CBT is that its been successful in building an evidence base.

@DannyL Aye. It’s a process, not a revelation. Graded exposure is a guide in.

Gradual exposure to personal truths creates gradual insight. The more momentum you achieve, the greater the posigive effects post-session and long term.

I'd debate the effect. One of my earlier clients, I wasn't sure what I did, but she improved a lot. I don't think the same thing would happen now. I'd have more of a clue as to what transpired.

very easy, wake up to gabber, speedcore, hard acid and techstep, slow down out after your first coffee with dub, rare groove and garage, and then go back on the harsh noise, penderecki, speedcore and hard acid before you go to sleep... My whole [praxis is geared towards the anti-weed mindset, which is a CIA plot.

listen to this before you sleep, you'll be lucid at 6 am the next day.

 
therapy seems to have potential for what it's not: it's not someone telling you what to do, it's not life advice, it's not someone who really gives a fuck (hopefully also not someone who doesn't give a fuck), it's not someone you know, it's not someone who knows about you, it's not conclusive

therapists will find it nigh on impossible to break through your character armour if you know the city better than them. I found my therapy much more effective when I was living in Leeds. In london it's hopeless. I can run circles around them. no problem. no room to be opened up to alternative modes of thought. Transference does not become hard in that context. you can just instruct the backline to go back to a 5 or a 5-3-2 until the session is over. Pure antifootball timewasting. whereas when you are in foreign waters you do have to use your intuition much more. Therapy is not a very intellectual pursuit, it is a knock off secular version of sunday service, but this time the rich man enters the kingdom of God far quicker than the camel can even begin to attempt to go through the eye of a needle.

@shiels I’d hope the T gives a fuck and gets to know the client. How else can therapy work? The relationship is a complex one. Just google therapy + transference.

The client’s desired outcomes are ongoing and lived. In that sense conclusion comes as resolution, where prior life patterns are recast. If you’ve running rings around them, you’re wasting their time and your own.
 
Yeah I mean they don’t give a fuck about who you are, where you’re from, don’t care what you did... they’re not part of your life basically, and there’s clear boundaries, confidentiality, no judgement

that's a bit of a fiction though. there's always judgment and not always confidentiality. I'm not averse to therapy but the way its advocates talk about it seems to put a huge responsibility on the shoulder of therapists. you're asking for them to be robotised health overseers. i can't vibe with that.

John Rawls was wrong. A veil of ignorance is a cool academic thought experiment but it has no practical utility.
