there's a weird amount of stuff like this about. which seems to somehow praise random people for wanting to go and fight in the war. i'm not making any particular judgement about whether that's a good thing or not, but it is odd to me that the Guardian are encouraging it, or at least glorifying it a bit.

i was thinking the same. one of my friends in holland was thinking of joining the reserves, i told him he's mental. it feels as if this is going to be the white men's jihad

I know, it’s not like there was some famous, fabled left-wing historical precedent for it or anything.

Yeah apparently several million dollars in crypto has been crowdsourced for Ukraine. There's even a Ukraine DAO, but I don't know its M.O.

The weird thing was that, for a while at least a few years ago, going on jihad was the white men's jihad.

(OK, probably not all that many of them, but there was a bunch of high-profile cases at one point. Even some white women, too.)

well there is yeah, i hadn't thought of that. regardless, it is still striking to me that the main left paper is slightly encouraging people with no training at all to go and fight in an overseas war (even if he is ukranian, its still more or less the same thing).

I agree, it's probably a bit reckless in this case.

Yeah could Ukraine be considered a proxy for the EU, or NATO most broadly? I suppose that is arguably the point of the alliance. Maybe NATO indirectly fighting Russia by supporting Ukraine is their idea of a middle ground between direct kinetic engagement and abstinence.

yeh i think it's slowly changing into a proxy war. i think it's better to give up ukraine or to split it up.

German Chancellor Scholz announced on Feb. 27 that Germany will build two port terminals for LNG to reduce its energy dependency on Russia.

“The events of the last few days and weeks have shown us that a responsible and forward-looking energy policy is not only crucial for our economy and our climate but also crucial for our security,” Scholz said.
