have read two political autobiographies recently, one by one of the Lib Dem cabinet guys from the coalition, one by Harriet 'Hazza' Harmen. they're incredibly easy to read, absolutely no concessions to style whatsoever, written in a really dull way, 'this happened then this happened then this happened, and very occasionally i experienced a feeling'. the main benefit is that it reinforces the obvious but forgettable fact that all of these people in the government are at the end of the day people. not particularly interesting ones. i feel like i can imagine doing their job, being in that world, dealing with the same ambiguities about what to do, tension between what's good for you personally and 'what you came into politics for'.

the other benefit is the standard autobiographical thing where it's a bit like being in the pub with someone a few pints deep telling you about their life. more grist to the mill.

overall i don't really recommend this as a pastime

No way. Saul told me I was in it... though under a changed name. Is there nothing about East London?

It's all Brixton and Peckham features briefly, there is brief bit in Hackney but if you're in it they've done a good job of disguising you. You're more familiar with the story so you may spot yourself straightaway though. I didn't.

It's pretty vague on names if they aren't "Lias, "Nathan", or "Saul". Everyone else is "his girlfriend" or "a friend" or "someone". Even the other members of the band hardly get a mention.

I was worried they would make me look like a twat... but not being talked about! Thing is I would never have thought I would be in it except Saul read it and said I was.
How about Alex Sebley, he must be in it I'd have thought...

i think the thing is why would you talk about anyone not famous. they simply stop existing past a certain threshold.

Well if there was a funny anecdote... like the time [x] tried to dodge his bar bill by pretending to have a fit and then escaping from the ambulance once the bouncer had let his guard down.

I like the word 'tried' in this post. It implies whoever it was failed to dodge the bill got a kicking and found himself in an ambulance for real.

What happened is the night went horribly wrong and the organiser felt guilty and put his card behind the bar to buy drinks for everyone... then thought better of it and nicked the card from a pint class behind the bar and ran. The bouncer ran too and caught him so he pretended to have a fit. They called an ambulance and were strapping him on to a stretcher when he jumped up and ran to freedom.

I thought Sebley would be in there cos he is inextricably linked with the band... he wrote Touch The Leather which sounds kinky but was in fact about the hot seats of a taxi when they went to play gigs in Algeria.
