I'm fascinated to see how the internet and the ubiquity of smartphones, etc. plays into this. You often hear people claim the JFK assassination would have been wrapped up if it happened today, so this should be a good test of whether all this tech can lead to a stable narrative.
I guess much of it also depends on if its true that Trump's would-be administration wants to replace nonpartisan career government bureaucrats with partisan ones. That could be overblown fearmongering from Democrats, but it could also be true. Even if it is true, its one thing to plan it, but its another thing to actually overhaul the personnel of a sprawling governmental apparatus within four years.Aside from his views on gender-affirming care, gay marriage, and abortion, I actually don’t take much issue with Vance, based on what I know now. I’d guess I’d take as much issue with him as I would Harris, but I’m not deeply familiar with either of them.
His Thiel connection and the Yarvin connection both weird me out, but it seems like you’re gonna get weird connections with any politician at this scale. As a progressive, social values wise, I wonder what issues other folks here take with him.
For me, I’m progressive in terms of social values, but classically liberal in terms of the role of government, which puts me in a weird overlap between Democratic and Republican values.
Perish the thought!I may be wrong
I hate gastropubs.sprawl and bloat
I think we already knew this would be the case, but the presence of smartphones clearly hasn't resulted in a definitive account of what happened.
There seems be consensus on the shooter being the person named, that he was on the identified rooftop, that he fired shots at Trump and hit members of the audience, that he was killed by the Secret Service, and so on, but that's mostly based on official reports and eyewitness testimony. The wave of blurry phone footage that hit social media's just led to rampant speculation on the behaviour of the Secret Service, picking out suspicious figures in the crowd, and general theorising and sensationalism. The existence of many Zapruder films just seems to lead to more questions.
Careful, you let some opinions out there.Aside from his views on gender-affirming care, gay marriage, and abortion, I actually don’t take much issue with Vance, based on what I know now.
Well naturlich thats because, if it pans out, the bookies will be summarily gulaged and the would-be winnings confiscated to fund the erection of a bronze statue of Trump - and chiefly his erection, mind you.The animating Democrat conspiracy theory that Trump will turn the US into a fascist dictatorship is unusual in that no-one actually seems to believe it. It's purely on the level of discourse to signal in-group affiliation. Why do I think no-one believes it? You can't get any odds on it from the bookies. So not a single person has placed a bet.

Gulags were Communist; the thing that Americans think is the worst thing about Nazism was actually Communist. That is amazing.Well naturlich thats because, if it pans out, the bookies will be summarily gulaged and the would-be winnings confiscated to fund the erection of a bronze statue of Trump - and chiefly his erection, mind you.
As Americans, we regard all our enemies merely as unamerican, their other nuances notwithstanding.Gulags were Communist; the thing that Americans think is the worst thing about Nazism was actually Communist. That is amazing.
