Also @the ig, I made a joke about his taste - thought it was an obvious joke cos I like his taste better than anyone else's on the forum and he replied "go fuck yourself" which I aslso took as a joke but now he's deleted it and that makes me think it wasn't...

That was recorded a looooong time ago, it's not a mix as such, went to @DannyL's house and used his stuff to record a load of tunes and then put them together, didn't even have any dj software as I recall but I think it's quite a nice selection (though I can't remember what's on it, might listen myself in fact). It seemed to be pretty popular, it was on Dan's page for ages and it had a lot of listens but I copied it over to mine at some point. When I was in Russia the first time people seemed to like it and one guy was desperate to get me to come from Moscow to St Petersburg to dj but it was about eight hours on the train and I just couldn't fit it in.
I guess you could call it exotica and primitive electronic stuff, a bit like that NTS show maybe.

Due to lack of sleep recently, I ended up crashing hard last night so I didn't get very far into it, unfortunately - just a few tracks before my body forced me to go into shutdown mode.

in the 90s there was a hige focus on this notion of 'cult' that tarintino was a huge part of and that was a formative inflluence on rich for sure as part of that generation. lots of pulpy kind of stuff, library music, exotica etc

I'm not trying to diss, but I'm just not sure I have the requisite lexical tools to describe it.
um... lemme think... not sure if I'll just dig myself a deeper hole though
kind of like a selection of quirky cutesy novelty records
not saying it's bad, it's just what it feels like to me - i certainly didn't hate it or anything like that

as a young person it was seductive. this notion of an alternative canon. i remember the first adult books i read was a list of 'cult' novels published by the observer magazine. i worked my way thru all of them
but youre right, and i think its also a record collector things, the cutesy novelty vibe. you own all the normal records everyone else does but you want to go further and that always leans cutesy, kitctchsy, novelty

but record collecting is always subject to rapidly diminishing returns. the good stuff is the good stuff and once you get past that your in a trash-cult
