    Osborne, Mandelson, Rothschild etc

"a dangerous wanker" Could he have one's eye out with that? Thought this thread was going nowhere, and if we are all in agreement....

    Osborne, Mandelson, Rothschild etc

Singling out Osborne as wanker after declaring the notions of left and right as defunct in the higher realms of politics is a bit rich, or a sign of underlying political alignment. The message the media (or at least the BBC) are trying to push is that Osborne was way out of his depth and let...

The Kurt Wallender books by Henning Mankell have that air of scandinavian desparation about them - good holiday reading. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_b/026-2216477-8560439?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=henning+mankel

    Bear Stearns...

Not sure what point really underlies that article - has the Fed "killed the dream" by interveneing, or are they trying to prop it up and then enforce a different type of regulation to protect the dream (which none of the investment banks want)?. Should have the Fed let Bear slide into the abyss?

    Bear Stearns...

I read this as Bear Stearns had a seriously exposed balance sheet towards worthless assets pointing to a basic insolvancy issue, and when liquidity rumours started, this evaporated any investor and lender confidence exposing the balance sheet, defacto making the bank unable to hid its insolvancy...

    Bear Stearns...

It was - the question should have been did Bear Sterns face a "solvancy crisis" - I would have liked him to have said if that was ridiculous.

    Islamophobia

Not suggesting this thread has been hijak'd along the lines of who has the more oppresive state (visible or hidden) or why there should be guilt over past colonial events, but is the subject not Islamophobia in general, and the perceived perception of its affect. The question most people seem...

In the UK, dance music gets faster the further north you go...

Surely its a heat thing? - the further north the colder it is = dance faster to keep warm :D Simple? or possibly due to rate of change regarding to scenes - the further north the less factional dance music is, therefore the more established forms hang on for longer - not a judgement, mearly an...

An open letter to Simon Reynold on his 'Brit Pop box' critique

I think Radiohead get lumped with Shoegaze origins because of the Oxford connection (Ride), and while I don't hear a lot of U2 in Coldplay (Keane anyone, though thats because their producer also has a hard one for U2) I remember being initially taken by the Bigger, Stronger EP, and then being...

    A Cautionary tale...

I agree with the general apathy towards Vista - I was a early adopter as I demo new technology for a big corp, and as of then and now, I can find any reason for recommending moving 3000+ PC's from XP to Vista. My own experience is that its fairly stable, but doing anything is like running on a...

    global financial crash yay!

Balls'd that up - lack of supply I meant - demand is as great as ever, but no one is selling, and is a standoff between buyers feeling that houses are over priced, vs owners who know that there is short supply, and therefore hold their ground. Given that the market has sustained over pricing for...

Pointless But It Does My Head In

You know what - I can't remember - its some fairly cheesy early 90's dance/trance tune with the "open your mind to me, please. open your mind" sample. I'll have to dig it out if I can find it.

    global financial crash yay!

Its no co-incidence that the major housing construction projects around North-East London at the moment are the 1 or 2 Bedroom Luxury Flat/Apartment type, with bearly any 3-4 bedroom "family" homes being built at all. This cannot but lead to exposure, due to the time (say 2-3 years ago when the...
