ok, half an hour spent cut n pasting a playlist together from foobar has produced this. Far from comprehensive, but i think it illustrates quite nicely that UK dance music has had a good year.

''call that a list'' flex with that thurr, I will have to go through all those at some point.

I was listening to that Jessy Lanza album today and I really like it. I tried Haxan Cloak, just seemed a bit generically ''DARK'' to me, although well done (NB: I haven't given it much of a chance yet).

no list but these r my top 3 tracks of the year; all by the same producer, all the same beat really

carnao beats - just say no
carnao beats - just say no more
carnao beats - just say nothing

paolo

Mechanical phantoms
Album of the year - The Knife - Shaking The Habitual
Tune of the year - The Knife - Raging Lung
Label of the year - Livity Sound

baboon2004

Darned cockwombles.
I could have included anything by MssingNo in this top 5, everything I've heard of his has just blown me away (Purple-y sounding 140 with distorted pitched RnB vocals shouldn't have been anything special in 2013 but this was).

my god this is good...best i've heard this year, three days before the year comes to a close. so much more going on than in the standard Rnbsample-and-drums attempts

Midland - Checkbob
Hysterics - Pleasuredome

mark radford's rinse fm show has been my salvation this year, just as i was continuing to become more and more bored with every other show on there. a ton of my fav tunes from the show are still not released, rs4 tunes and that, i'll keep it to releases this year.
majesty - i can tell (luke larrell remix)
carnao beats - deep symptoms ep
hugo massien - whenever
luke larrell - back 2 cali
arun verone - this is it (dub)
playtime productions feat. tamara - heading my way
tazer - wet dollars, obviously...
louie anderson - la coca
florence and the machine - spectrum (nrky remix)
hugo massien - menace
shea burke - lonely travels remixes
shay & sinista - the getdown ep
my choices are pretty audio rehab-centric but only cos there ain't a hell of a lot coming out elsewhere. x5dub's gonna absolutely kill it in 2014 with the house entertainment lot though, arun verone too.

anything and everything peverelist n kowton were involved with, livity sound, punch drunk, hessle etc.

flava d, a producer who gets rnb bootlegs spot on, a rare thing. on that note, mssingno has to get mentioned for the absolutely amazing 'xe2'. shot straight up amongst my most listened of the year within a week or so.

love seeing mk, disclosure and all that stuff up in the charts, getting play all over radio 1 etc. can only be a good thing.

I mostly spent 2013 musically in the 70s. or really, 1968-1982 or so. For one went systematically through all NWW list I wasn’t already familiar with, plus other likely sources as jumping off points. Beyond the Krautrock usuals there is a great deal of awesome, weird stuff, tho also a fair amount of crap. Also spent a fair bit of time digging into 70s hard rock, which is non-Dissensus music if ever there was any (tho I think rich + some others might dig some) and the whole 70s prepostpunk confusion of places like Cleveland. Only time I listened to new music, besides the odd thing like Goat, was channel-surfing radio on the rare occasions I had to drive somewhere for work.

All top 10s in no particular order

2013 Top 11 (mostly not actually from 2013)
Lorde – Royals
La Dusseldorf – Immermannstrasse
Goat – World Music LP (bit overrated and their origin story is doofy but still pretty great)
Squadra Omega – everything (even better than Goat, not sure why don’t get the same accolades)
Billy Thorpe + The Aztecs – Somebody Left Me Crying/Time to Live, live 1971
Sheila Chandra/Monsoon – Ever So Lonely
Franco Battiato – Areknames
Stone Harbour – Emerges LP
Brainticket – Watching You
all Phil Pearlman's 60s-70s projects (Beat of the Earth, Electronic Hole, Relatively Clean Rivers)
Kendra Smith Presents the Guild of Temporal Adventurers

2013 Top 10 underrated 70s scenes/sounds (underrated is a nebulous term and some of these have cult popularity but even the ones that do all exist in the shadow of some more famous scene or band)
70s Cleveland scene – Electric Eels, RFTT/Ubu, Mirrors
protopunk outside VU/MC5/Stooges or Nuggets-style comps
70s France avant and psychedelic - Catharsis, Cheval Fou, Pôle Rec, many more
70s Japan heavy/weird/psychedelic (Cope’s book is good, better than his Krautrock one)
early 70s OZ hard rock BT + The Aztecs, Coloured Balls/Lobby Loyde, Buffalo
Swedekraut – Pärson Sound, Baby Grandmothers, Älgarnas Trädgård
70s Italian prog (but only some, a lot is ELP/Genesis style suckage) – Area, Battiato, Claudio Rocchi, etc
NE (Recife) Brazil psych scene – Lula Côrtes/Satwa, Ze Ramalho, Marconi Notaro
World music before it was “world music” - Barney Wilen, Osjan, multiple kraut records, Aktuala, etc
Obscure early electronic + electroacoustics (i.e. Creel Pone)

those could all get their own stellar top 10s but I only did a couple

2013 Top 10 70s hard rock
Sir Lord Baltimore – Helium Head
Dust – Suicide
Kraftwerk* – Heavy Metal Kids
Flower Travellin’ Band – Satori
Necromandus – Nightjar
Wicked Lady – Run the Night
Buffalo – Freedom/The Prophet (the whole Volcanic Rock LP crushes, really)
Pentagram – Forever My Queen
Thin Lizzy – Emerald
Sonic Rendezvous Band – City Slang

*or, Neu + Florian, from the brief period when Ralf left and was replaced by Dinger/Rother. like Neu doing a freeform motorik cover of Iron Man if they only knew the general vibe rather than the actual chord progressions, and yes it’s as great as that sounds

2013 Top 11 protopunk non-VU, MC5, Stooges
Smash – Well You Know
The Pink Fairies - Do It
Flamin’ Groovies – Slow Death
Hawkwind – Urban Guerrilla or Silver Machine
Zuno Keisatsu –世界革命戦争宣言 (World Revolution War Declaration)
Gedo - Don't Run Away
Debris – One Way Spit
Rocket From the Tombs – What Love Is
Electric Eels – Flapping Jets
Simply Saucer – Electro-Rock
Death – Keep On Knocking

I hate the SMB almost as much as the Eagles (i.e., infinity), but any list that puts it up besides Chic, Zorn, Basinski and a backyard hxc show deserves respect.

Mr Faucet and I did our combined Best of 2013 today. The Top 5 are tunes we both chose. The rest are artists we both had on our list but the tunes were different. It's on our blog, each tune has a soundcloud embed to accompany it, altogether 14 tunes:

http://pushpullshanghai.com/2013/12/31/2013/

My personal list will be coming soon, possibly tomorrow.
