Reynolds has a good one about diva vocals being seen in the uk as a signifier of blackness, whereas as in Europe it was seen as gay (and as such they were absent of European imitations/equivalents of jungle).

Jamaican melodies being another?

Other countries not familiar enough to get dancehall connotations from them, just assume it’s infantile?

There's never been a talented English person. I think that's a big part of it. We are absolutely rubbish at music. But it sort of comes out good anyway. Or at least, we think so. It's all primary school play, all the parents clapping. Wings falling off an angel. Virgin Mary bursting into tears,

Garage mc’s with fake leather jackets. Shoddy r’n’g vocals. A grime dvd where they’re showing off because they’ve got a moderately priced car.

Drill’s been clever in not even attempting to replicate raps materialism. All just northface and council estates.
