some people are so high on their own supply they can't really communicate in a normal fashion. they just want to keep the machine cranking. they're in love with their own performance.

Mark Fisher was the same. He'd never talk to you. He was talking, and you were there. If you asked a question the machine would stutter slightly, there'd be a pause and he'd continue the monologue as though you'd never said anything.
this is the power of autism -- true power, in its rawest form. an absolute impermeability to the demands of others, and single-minded focus on your god-given mission.

you should have seen our other-life too. it just makes you think, where were all these super-auts before the internet? no one ever got to witness the power before. now theyre everywhere.

i believe they were collecting train paraphernalia and setting up hifi systems while working a white collar bureaucratic job. computers destroyed their jobs, but gave them a new outlet. however Academia is having a harder time with their crop of autists...

tell me about academia. mega-aut @suspended said his insititution refused to let him write his dissertation or graduate. is that connected?

the problem is that autists need tenure because teaching and securing new positions and making side hustle money requires people skills, and right now there's no tenure available. boomers occupy most of the slots, and all the new academic hires aren't professorial but stuff like "diversity and teenage sexual ethics committee member", which is the sort of thing that actively threatens well-meaning autists

spendy might come off here as a mega-aut but i can tell you from personal experience that he's quite capable of doing person stuff. surely he has different problems.

all the autisitics i know are much, much better at getting ahead in the world and socialising than i am. i think they're mostly putting it on tbh.

oh and the other thing is that software is purpose-built autism bait and pays pretty nicely. herding autists is also a fun career for some of us

whatever it is with luke i don't think he's autistic as he's very confident and has very good customer service skills, easily maintains a circle of friends etc and as noted is useless at maths and so on

sounds like an undetected case of long covid. you should seek reparations. ideally at the federal level

another thing is that he has a set of principles by which he leads his life hence his frequent complaints of inability to achieve any worldly success.
