It's the long and detailed posts that I don't read. This sounds a bit tight to DF, it's not meant that way!
Not intending any disrespect to DF - they are just different.
Ah no offense taken to either of you, don't worry about it! Dw people always say I write a ton, which is true. Briefly browsing through some of this CS guy's stuff, he seems very...lucid about the abstract, don't know how else to phrase it haha

Long time lurker, first time poster. Toyed with the idea of registering for a while now, particularly as I've been wasting more and more time here since lockdown started.

Finally goaded into taking the plunge by a John Eden post, where he said that the only thing sadder than spending your life posting on an internet forum is watching other people do that and not joining in.

made me ponder how many hours exactly i'd spent essentially eavesdropping on the people here, and then I felt thoroughly ashamed of myself and a little bit sick. it seemed as though the only healthy course of action would either be to ban myself from lurking here or to come in and say hello. so, hello!

the West Midlands of England, that is. Spaghetti Junction, Tony Hancock, the band We've Got a Fuzzbox and We're Gonna Use It. that kind of West Midlands.

i could've said Birmingham but (1) it wouldn't have been strictly accurate and (2) i thought that if I said West Midlands there was no chance of anyone mistaking me for an American.

Ohhhh this is all a confusion. Pronto just DM'd me to say that he thought I was British. I was actually the exact user he had in mind when he was praising the non-Americans for their wit and charm. This makes a lot more sense. Pronto, you're welcome to stay, I won't stop you
