The ol' ethno-tourism question

the idea that dude should have the "scans that white rappers have" is ridiculous as there is only one white rapper who routinely trounces the black competition sales-wise and right now even his black protege is kicking his honky ass at the top of billboard.

    The Other Hardcore?

does the scud/praxis stuff fit in here too somewhere? (though i remember scud saying he cleared the floor of a lot of speedcore gigs he played.) i love this stuff too. "real" gabba can get pretty draining after about 15 minutes, and no one really plays the "atmospheric" stuff. but this stuff is...

Have you ever heard something so good it made you cry?

sometimes i think i'll start blubberin at any old thing. the last time i busted up was to david banner's "fire fallin" about a week ago.

    More MIA

which is to say i think i'll remember 2005 as the year we talked about m.i.a. a lot rather than the year she broke open popular culture. though it's still early days.

    More MIA

the m.i.a. album is getting a HUGE pr push over here in the u.s. - the times top 10 list thingee she did, new yorker, even the philly inquirer ran a full page A&E profile [complete with "world music" quote from sfj's piece...no "shanty house" tho, sorry matt :D) on her last sunday and they...

bleep 'n' bass -- an anachronistic term?

yeah i think dominic is right irt the wax trax/industrial connection. it's not that big of a leap between nodes from t99 to vitalic, is it? (i think the optimo guys already play some belgian stuff, but then they play everything.) really it's only when the speeded-up breakbeats start...

bleep 'n' bass -- an anachronistic term?

i have a feeling belgian shit might be the next hipster zone of accquisition. i was reading some dj magazine (it might have even been "dj magazine" come to think of it) (anyway one of those awful dance mags) (the ones that are left) (i have too much free time at work) and they had some thing...

DnB producers... why so little overlap in new styles?

really it's not any different from how rap runs now (50 cent: "i think [rapper X who has undersold him]'s problem is that the music business is a business"...well, yeah but music is the root of that dude...you can probably make more cash in money management) but it's still sad

    Honour in Music.

so, matt, you mean honorable in the sense of owning up to your own bullshit and attempting to do something about it? or is just owning up to it enough? or is there some deeper cosmic signifigance i'm missing? is it just aspiring to transparency? is PiL honorable and !!! isn't? i can't say i...

DnB producers... why so little overlap in new styles?

amit has like two ideas! anyway, there's a ton of dnb producers around today doing interesting stuff and probably shifting about the same as the dubstep guys. the reason the big cats haven't changed is $$.

    r&b

i could definitely see myself getting annoyed by the amerie if i had a tv or drove to work. which track on the DC did 9th wonder produce? that raphael saadiq album that squeaked out unnoticed last year is actually pretty hot in places.
