Dear PitchforkMedia, You are really freaking me out (Re. Ruff Sqwad)

sometimes you just read those band names and your soul yawns. (i am especially sensetive to this, because i think it's how people usually react to all that neo-dnb stuff that i am banging on about. is "equinox" really any better than one of those "the [blanks]" garage band names?)

Dear PitchforkMedia, You are really freaking me out (Re. Ruff Sqwad)

i do! but that's not even what i was talking about. stevie: i have no problem with people listening to rock/indie. "undistinguished" was the bigger part of that statemtn, for me.

Dear PitchforkMedia, You are really freaking me out (Re. Ruff Sqwad)

(basically the reason i am writing about grime [and other dissensus friendly stuff like nu-dnb, breakcore, dancehall, etc.] for pfork is three-fold: 1.) it's the stuff i like, 2.) they want me to, and 3.) someone's got to. don't get me wrong...i still have major problems with pfork [see...

    More MIA

going back in on something i said in my last post...i was at a bar in nyc talking to a fairly well known rock critic and when the subject got around to dancehall - the merits of the "bubble up" riddim, riddim madness in the US, etc. - it was very enjoyable for a bit. then we got to talking about...

    More MIA

i have to say that, nuff respect to the bot and blissblogger as per, i think some key points are being missed in these little tete a tetes. (i havent read the dean's "reply" yet, so if i am just rehashing points he made here, apologies.) whatever you feel about cultural appropriation, maya's...

    Donae'o

i kinda thought donae'o's "entertainer's ear" was going to get him in trouble with the scene, but after certain tunes last year, it's clear the prohibition on pop-grime is over. he's definitely got the most natural pop instincts of anyone in grime, though his slicker rnb stuff has been...

    Speed Garage Disaster

if anyone has any of the kma tunes to upload, it'd be much appreciated. (the vinyl went in the great vinyl purge years ago.) p.s. what the hell is "organ house"??

When people with "Normal Music Taste" ask you what you listen to...

"rap and its variants" "dance music" sadly this comes up quite often since i work in a record store "well, what would you buy, dear?"

    Backwards?

what happened to, you know, setting up your own label and grinding? he's not jay-z, but, whatever your feelings are on the music, i'd guess bryan gee is probably doing better today than most grime artists will be doing in ten years time.
