    Shoegaze

people tend to point to Loveless as an unparalleled studio achievement--which i wouldn't necessarily argue with, but to me Isn't Anything just sounds like one album among others of its ilk (and possessing only a few great tracks in my opinion). if you follow the trajectory of that area of...

    Shoegaze

well... MBV are certainly great, but i have no idea why they would be regarded as the unimpeachable tops... Shoegaze is a sound, imo, whose promise is only fulfilled through tracks scattered across the discogs of many bands... frankly i have been trying for years and am still trying to squeeze...

    Ramadanman / Pearson Sound

a propos of nothing. i love that usher song. one of my longest standing somewhat guilty pleasures. a nice sample (in Blue Eyes). feels like it has to function as a builder 'cos it doesn't really pay out... but tugs at my Usher gestalt sensors a great deal.

    Funky/London/UK House

feller's all hesitant about it, but i quite like that Fuzzy Logic vocal. Just because it certainly won't blow up like In the Morning doesn't mean it's not pretty great. Other wise the Murdz track was the standout for me. a very nice set indeed. sadly, i couldn't say the same for the HH Banton...

    Jungle

total non-sequitur. stumbled on this listening to a SOUR comp. a little sappy, maybe a little to refined to be "jungle", but it's working for me anyway.

    Brazil Forever.

for Joao Gilberto: Aguas de Marco is actually the only one i know really well. I think there would be a fair number of records predating it that would feature bossa within a more orchestral framework... this is a barebones rhythm combo and Joao humming and whispering along. sonically, records...

    house and techno are bad

nah it's not that one either. but that song is fabulous, so i'm glad you tipped me. i know you've all been waiting on bated breath... finally respotted this one. it was in the United Vibes 4x4/UKG anniversary mix from last year. Nubian Mindz - Be Allrite no youtube as far as i can tell...

    Funky/London/UK House

thinking a bit about this discussion of track dynamism vs. mix dynamism and where all funky is at right now (and i haven't followed closely enough lately to know, tbh): i'm tempted to use Yellowtail as some kind of litmus from time to time. it took me many many spottings to ever feel like i...

    Dubstep

was just relistening to this again today. the Made Up Sound remix of Skudge is fabulous. just wanted to take a second to gush about Pev's chops. His music feels so intensely interwoven into nuum history whilst still sounding entirely unique. I'm not even sure what i mean by that... in some...

    Jungle

yeah can we have that? i think i'd take the Trace original over that remix, but i wasn't there at the time. i've been digging pretty hard on the Prototype years stuff lately. Any favourite radio show sets/mixes from that era for folks? Threshold is definitely one of my favourite Dillinja...

I like the bad later albums

i'll see your Sade and raise you... also, whilst it isn't really playing along with the spirit of the thread, but i have to say that i'll probably never learn to love anything Horace Andy has done as much as his vocal work with Massive Attack (and really mostly just on Mezzanine).

    Ambient suggestions

a few of the records i sleep to the most: lots of Eleh these days... the first track off of Location Momentum, Homage to Square Wave, his half of the split with Pauline Oliveiros, his half of the split with Nana April Jun, fifth track from the first Meditations record, B-side of Floating...

Pitiless police persecute Plastic People. Punters pissed.

ehm, sounds a bit farfetched. my uneducated guess would have been gentrification.

    your favorite junglist auteur

so what should i seek out from Formation? i never really followed DJ SS much. Obviously Black blew my mind a bit the first time i heard it, which was only recently. been playing the Unified Colours mix, but what else should i check out? lots of releases in the early years i see...

    Great 2 Step?

bear with the foreigner here, i'm hoping for an insanely obvious track id from one of the giants: i'm wondering about the version of destiny that sounds more or less like the original only the beat's more of a straight 4 to the floor stomper that plays perfectly with the vocal which i think is...

in his last Rinse set Ben announces Elgato's Blue is gonna get pressed by Hessle. Easily one of the tracks of the year for me--very happy to hear it's getting a release.

    six tre chevrolet (lowrider hits)

willful misinterpretation/faithful product placement.: couldn't find a satisfactory definition for Jeep beat online. urban dictionary's is woeful. that King Tee song is great, tho. apologies for the thread interruption.
