The US equivilent to the 'nuum

Great Chicago Record Fire= http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disco_Demolition_Night House/Garage/Techno history is given a brief, but good summation in Energy Flash otherise I have no idea. There is a great Peter Shapiro book on disco Turn the Beat Around also Tim Lawrence's Love Saves The Day is...

The US equivilent to the 'nuum

Again I don't think there is any possible way of making a continuum of American music. It's way way way too messy. But looking at your list hip hop >>> electro >>> garage/house is way way off on a basic level. Garage/house is just where disco lived after the Great Chicago Record Fire (it...

    "breakbeat revolution"-heh.

The US equivilent to the 'nuum

Um no funk or disco in there? And the breakbeat was certainly not the essential (or the only essential) characteristic of hip hop or technoid rnb. There is a New York hip hop continuum up to a point though, but I don't think you can extend much beyond the boroughs before it starts getting...

the world's best dancehall thread ever

Whuh?!? No those year-end Greensleeves comps are awesome. Totally worth picking up and about as "real" (whatever that means) as most folks outside of Jamaica are going to get.

GRIME- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

That version of events seems pretty unlikely.

GRIME- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

I think I can see where calling someone who killed someone else for a reason as stupid as this a psycho is pretty justified, but hey if you want to argue that Titch's a misunderstood teddy bear then that can be your thing. But what about the Riko mixtape, Logan, what happened to that?

GRIME- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

What ever happened to the Riko mixtape? Did that just not happen? It's been rumored for ages.

    wu-tang's hidden gems

I characterize Wu-hidden gems as being any Wu song which isn't on the actual Wu-Tang group albums or any of the first five solo releases or a Ghostface album, because lets face it most people didn't buy Chronicles 1, Chronicles 2, Red Hot & Bothered or the Menace to South Central soundtrack to...

    wu-tang's hidden gems

2nd that amazing Gravediggaz Cali remix and the fantastic anti-AIDS anthem "America" and the amazing Scalp Dem remix (although the Congo Natty version is maybe even better.) Stuff I remember off the top of my head that isn't on any of the big albums (I have a whole bunch of folders of Wu-Tang...

REGGAE/DANCEHALL - breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

I think I like the Pinchers version the best, but the riddim is fantastic. The Spice/Pinchers cut is also great. Cham album supposed to be out in the next couple of weeks, I think.

    ragga / dancehall / jungle

Some answers “the story starts with the first wave of digital riddims of the 80s, right? like "Murder She Wrote" and stuff like that?” Technically “Murder She Wrote” is from the early 90s, but the ragga (which basically means digital reggae) story pretty much starts in the mid-80s, yes. “when...

Test Yr Reggae Knowledge Here Now!

The Blood & Fire had LP release, I believe (most of their early releases did anyway.) Not sure about the Heartbeat collection. Good luck finding the 7". Never heard "Black Man's Time", but according to allmusic it's on a Music Club Deejay's comp. That'll be CD only most likely.

REGGAE/DANCEHALL - breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

I couldn't be anticipating the Baby Cham album more. Even if the second disc of Wow is just alright (possibly Kelly's only misstep in nearly 20 years of producing/engineering/whatever although you can't really fault him for at least trying something a little bit different--strangely the two...

    Big Big Riddims 2005 - 2006

I agree that Chinkuzi is weaker than the other SRC riddims (although Chinkuzi's Revenge rates with any of them IMO) so I can see the disappointment thing. The absolutely blows comment seems overkill. It's not bad at all.
