    I-Wayne

Elephant Man and Vybz have albums coming out this year. I can believe (given the right song and the right promotion) either one of those guys having a hit single stateside (I have no idea what Sean Paul is doing though.) On the roots-ier end, yeah, I like I-Wayne (what I've heard--three or...

    bossman - street anthems 2

Both of the Street Anthem's mixes are fantastic. The version of the second one I got came with the equally incredible Essentials Heating Vol 2 (are Essentials the most underrated crew? Is it the South thing?)

    Statik Connected 3xLP

Has anyone heard this? It looks fantastic.

Toronto Record Store and Event Info Question

So I am going to be heading to the wild world of Toronto next week (and onto Montreal the week after) and I was hoping some Canadians had some ideas about good record shops (esp. dancehall, jungle places) and possible events (along similar lines--obv I intend to check Eye and NowToronto early...

    Sizzla

Yeah I checked that out, but unfortunately most of the mp3s (at least 3 or 4 months ago) were encoded at 128 kbps. So I still do the bad thing and slsk stuff I am curious about and then either pick up the riddim album (if there is one) or the odd 7" for the super great tings.

    Sizzla

I don't think stuff being on vinyl is actually preventing people from downloading the "music for free". I am not certain exactly how the vinyl business in JA works, but I would presume that if the demand for CD singles was high enough that independent producers would just start bringing their...

    Sizzla

Actually I shouldn't say not much, I mean it might be potentially devasting to the industry in Jamaica which revolves around vinyl (pressing plants or whatever), but I don't think it's more expensive to press a CD than it is to make a 7" (esp. since material costs on vinyl keep rising.) And I...

    Sizzla

Nothing much. They'll just switch to CD singles (Dave Kelly has already attempted that with a couple of his riddims, eschewing the trad 7" route.)

    Sizzla

I recommend you pick up any of the last three Capleton records (who Sizzla basically copped most of his tricks from.) Sizzla releases way way too many records and I can't keep track of half of them, but Da Real Thing, Black Woman & Child, Rise to the Occassion and Kings of the Dancehall (and...

Audio documentary on the Amen break

I thought it was rather good actually and Shy FX and L Double are fine enough jungle examples (Remarc is not the be all and end all of Amen-mashing.) And the copyright points at the end are all well made.

    Poor State of Grime

She was on the biggest domestically released grime comp. Grime people guest on and also produce and remix her tracks. I don't think it's just a "marketing" thing.

    Poor State of Grime

As far as Americans are concerned she's close enough.

    Vex'd - Degenerate

The free Deuce mix CD I want is the Sublow Selections one from 2002-3. Unfortunately all back issues appear to be gone and I've never seen it anywhere (even for download.)

    Poor State of Grime

The general vibe here was not good on the leaks.

    Poor State of Grime

I'm just going by what I heard here and on ILM. Wasn't a lot of talk in either place about "selling out", just more like people were disappointed that they went in that direction. But maybe that's not a representative sample.

    Poor State of Grime

Is this really true? I mean maybe people who hadn't heard the "leaks" were excited, but the general vibe esp. on the Roll Deep once most of it was heard was not good.

Dizzee & DJ Wonder in San Francisco

S'true, but I think he knew which side his bread was buttered on. Crowd went apeshit for the jungle tracks ("Incredible", "Lighter", "Original Nuttah".) I don't think the reaction for Zed Bias or Zinc or the Artful Dodger would have been quite as intense somehow.

the new lethal b album 'against all odds'

Essentials Heating Vol 2 is really really great (easily the best 'single' artist grime album to come out this year) and it comes for free with the very good Street Anthems 2. I wholeheartedly recommend buying it over Lord of the Decks 3 which is decent enough, but kind of unexciting.
