Anyone read much of him? I've been reading a bunch lately. Still can't decide what to make of him though, he seems to cut a line right between being amazing and just being tossed off garbage. He's entertaining anyway for sure and I get a kick out of how his books are like barely over a...
I've got Mantis but haven't read it yet. This is a good thread, useful in a different way than some of the more general sf threads. There are other guys I wouldn't mind learning more about too, like Lucius Shepard, Thomas Disch, Barry Malzberg.
I didn't know about Death Arms.. I'll try and track that one down. I read Seeklight a little while ago which had it's moments. Far future = fantasy type thing, like Jack Vance but more grounded. Very different from Dr Adder though, I was surprised as they were written both in the early 70s...
I'll second Kraan and Krokodil.
Were Limbus 4 in the book? I'm not even sure they are krautrock to be honest but they're good if you want something a bit noisy.
No, I've not heard that. Is that Crom Tech? There was another I saw.. with a dude from Hella maybe? I can't remember.
I don't really know a lot about these guys. I heard earlier stuff and couldn't get into it, but I like OV quite a bit so I might be able to make sense of the earlier stuff...
I thought "666 International" by Dodheimsgard was really interesting but they haven't followed up on it yet (it seems it's always about to come out). It takes sounds from dance music, or alters their instruments to sound like them, but then rather than make dance tracks with guitar loops or...
I really liked the soundtrack to Solamente Nero. It's performed by Goblin but compossed by somebody different, can't remember his name but it's credited all to him if you are loking for it. Much more disco sounding than prog with lots of effects and weird stuff in the mix. The movie was...
I was talking about 7-Toku in comparison to Hatsukoi, an earlier album. I didn't realise they released another one after that. Is it any good? 7-Toku was a real let down for me at the time but I haven't heard it in a long time. I don't remember it having any synths or drum machines at all...
His recording of them was a LOT more traditionally rock style than their earlier cd though. I don't know if that was his call or theirs but the dance and synths aspect was turned down or stripped out of everything and I'm pretty sure there were real drums used.
