    Bay Area Rap

video for 'three freaks' Haha I'm interested to find out what dissensus makes of this (I think its hot). I don't want to be corny with the constant timbaland rock-crit references but it has a v. timbaland-like coda! (Whats best about it obv is that its a pretty solid Rick Rock bite.)

    chicago house nowadays

Further, there was recently a big Chicago Tribune article on a dance phenomenon called 'footworkin' (they compared it to krumping, that clown-dance style that is big in LA and Missy videos) from the south side where teenagers dance entirely to uptempo ghetto house (lots of rap remixes too). Its...

    chicago house nowadays

Yeah house is definitely alive in Chicago still. As far as big glossy mainstream house I really really love JJ FLores and Steve Smooth's "Time For Love" which you can check here: http://myspace.com/jjflores I imagine we're the only city with a station (Power 92) that proclaims itself the...

    The Hater's Thread

The underground rap hate is kind of infuriating. I mean of course there's plenty of wack nerdy shit but as grassroots music 'movements' go there's much worse shit out there. Eminem came out of underground rap, not the mixtape circuit. Of course for those of you who hate eminem i suppose that...

    Indie Rock or wot?!?

Forgive my cynicism but so many of you are cleary into indie rock and know all these NME type bands, so why is this the first time I've seen anyone talk about them on dissensus? Is it the sudden popularity of the arctic monkeys? Simon's profession of interest in the group?

    Great recent r&b gems

Bumping this in case Tim is still avoiding Anthony Hamilton - I noticed Spizzazzz listed an Anthony Hamilton song in their list of tracks, although it is the only psuedo-jamaican one on the LP.

    Great recent r&b gems

Emphasizing some Anthony Hamilton luv - Lupe Fiasco's rap over "Coming Where I'm From" hammers home how rap-friendly these seemingly overly organic tracks are.

    Matias Aguayo

This and Fraximal were both albums I liked a lot. They seem sorta ave. looking back on them, but I think that might just be high standards. Yeah they're both great. And as usual Tim's named my favorite tracks, haha. I can't say I was following what Phil Sherburne saw about the drums n feathers...

    Coldplay "sampling" Kraftwerk.

I think this song is pretty good too. It's not as good as the original but it is very different to my ears, in the effect/mood they're going for. But then I like Coldplay in general.

    Great recent r&b gems

BTW can I just use this space to say how underwhelmed I was by Jamie Lidell? It just sounded like generic 80s funk to me. I thought a couple songs were OK. But then I read some XLR8R year end issue going on about his genius and I'm trying to figure out what the difference between XLR8R and Urb...

    Great recent r&b gems

Anthony Hamilton - Charlene I love this song. If you like it, you'll prob get something out of the album. I never even liked D'angelo's stuff very much outside of the singles and I'm not a usual organic/neo-soul kinda guy. (PS: althouh Tim the first Amerie album is very 'organic!' )

    Great recent r&b gems

I haven't heard anything with that description, although 'rainforest' would be a good description of their style I think! Something like "Tell Me" does seem very uh moist? Anthony Hamilton has a restrained Al Green going on, non-flashy organic-ish production and an incredible voice...

    Great recent r&b gems

"Run It" and "Yo!" are diff songs. I donno dude has potential but I feel a bit like a 12 year old listening to those. Not to get all GROWN FOLKX MUSIC on the thread. Bobby V is pretty juvenile but he's coated in sticky cotton candy clouds of production. Speaking of great R&B I CANNOT stop...

    Great recent r&b gems

Trey Songz is a pretty boring/generic singer but "Ur Behind" (off his album I Gotta Make It) has that awesome spacey/smokey tim&bob production like "Give Me a Chance," "Tell Me" or "Slow Down." (I hope you've heard "Tell Me"! Its got this weird beautiful eastern melodic thing going on with...

    Great recent r&b gems

I'm excited to hear the direction Tim&Bob go - their cuts on Bobby Valentino and Trey Songz albums were some of the best I heard this year.

    Great recent r&b gems

I kinda think both versions of "Doncha" are yawn. But thats neither here nor there... Toni Braxton's twin new singles, "Please" and the incredible "Take This Ring" are worth seeking out. The new Mary J Blige is one of the best albums I've heard in a while. Save the U2 cover.
