    Hauntology

Guys, Recording of the event (minus the Q&As I'm afraid –*not enough microphones to record it) here: http://www.thewire.co.uk/articles/4111/ Next event May 6: Steve Goodman and Ken Hollings on sonic warfare and other concerns.

    New Oval Album

To clarify... Heard the 12", which is more of a mini album really, not heard the album.

    New Oval Album

It's very different to previous stuff. Sounds like he decided to go completely the other direction to before, so cheap freeware software rather than his own software. Simple sounds, everything apparently made on a cheap pc. It sounds frantic and improvised, and there's quick fire barrages of...

    Hauntology

It was recorded, and I think it'll be either broadcast on Resonance FM or archived on The Wire's website. Will try and keep you updated. Glad people enjoyed it. It started a little stiffly, I think, not surprising as everyone was outlining their own particular take on the idea. I ended up...

Record and Tape Exchange or whatever it's called nowadays.

There was quite a funny Adam And Joe parody of MVE one time.

Aren't the Geddy T ones available as legal downloads, via the likes of eMusic? They do some great stuff. The recent Malcolm Goldstein and Dick Higgins ones are great. I've also enjoyed a lot some of the MB/Mauricio Bianchi stuff.

Record and Tape Exchange or whatever it's called nowadays.

I worked in the office for many years. Worth remembering that some records will be essentially worthless to them, even though they don't refuse anything. So they're more interested in the good stuff. I'd say self-selection is the key. Prune out the rubbish, if you can. Consider giving some...

The Heygate Estate in Elephant And Castle

Why is this thread in music? Well, that's the question I want to put to you. The Heygate Estate is a massive, monolithic council housing clock in Elephant And Castle, South London. It's mostly unoccupied now and due to be demolished. However, it looks pretty striking from the outside. Now, I'm...

Pitiless police persecute Plastic People. Punters pissed.

I'm doing the same. Everyone should. The petition has only been signed by 1500 people so far. That's pathetic. It will be easily ignored. Sign up if you know Plastic People.

    woofah issue 4

John, what on earth is that computer you're working at? It's looks like a BBC Micro or something. Old School! Great to see another issue out, where's a good place to buy it... or is direct from you guys better.

    New dissensus layout

I remember at one point there was talk of small donations. I would be happy to put a little bit in if needed. Anyway, layout is OK, but I had a sudden feeling the place was quieter than it used to be. Let's hope not

Mark Ernestus (Basic Channel/Rhythm & Sound etc) in The Wire 312

Some peeps might want to know there's a rare (and big) interview with Mark Ernestus in the new issue of The Wire. Enjoy

    New dissensus layout

Is there a thread already on this? I'm not sure I'm enjoying the layout as much as I used to. I have to scroll up and down to see whats on all the forums. Also the search doesn't seem to work.

Yabby You was perhaps the greatest of that all. The Jesus Dread set is the pure building blocks of roots

    Jeff Mills

Those Wizzard mixes are amazing. Sometimes quite poppy in places. But sometimes it's the collision of tracks in the mix which is almost more important than the tracks themselves. My point about OCD isn't that this is something weird or anything like that, I think whoever said it's just a mark...

    Jeff Mills

To be honest Mills is hard to keep up with. He might produce several run of the mill tracks in a row and suddenly and unexpectedly then hit upon a killer formula on the next one. Hard to predict.

Contact Special is the one to get. Seriously. Metropolis is excellent too, though I guess that's around ten years old now. I'd recommend the Exhibitionist DVD very much, it's enormous fun and very interesting. I'm not sure you'd want to watch it more than once though. Watch it on YouTube...

Rolling John Lydon is a cock thread

The weird thing about John Lydon currently is the whole notion of PiL reforming with a couple of faceless session musicians who laid down a couple of tracks on their late albums. It's a complete joke PiL reforming, yet it's being treated as an important moment.
