Seconded, those two (or three, in the case of the Baroque cycle) are incredible and such wonderfully drawn worlds that you can lose yourself in for weeks. Never read any Atwood (I'm a terrible Canadian apparently), but I'm really looking forward to it after all the positive mentions in this thread.

Love "The Futurological Congress" by Stanislaw Lem, also helps that it walks the line perfectly between innovative ideas/observations and laugh-out-loud humour while maintaining an unflagging pace throughout.

The opening sequence of "Inferno" is so dreamlike and haunting...really great stuff and inimitable Argento.

Rock Music - let's be honest

They don't sound like that at all, have no fear. Try "You Fail Me" which, midway through, switches gears from wonderfully distorted hardcore into bizarre creaking balladry, complete with decaying tape and crackling campfire noises. "Jane Doe" is the ferocious bear to "You Fail Me"'s stealthy...

    Joanna Newsom --- "Ys"

CocoRosie is the perfect example of having to forcibly forget everything you know about the group and just listen to their music as is. That's why I have no problem whatsoever with Ms. Newsome. Lovely, hypnotic music...and her personality isn't nearly as abrasive as most of the people here are...

    Werner Herzog vs Rambo...

Just watched "Little Dieter..." (part of that glorious set) and apparently Herzog influenced Dieter's story quite a bit, suggesting visual comparisons (the jellyfish) and certain ideas (the opening and closing of his door) to him. He views his documentaries more as a collaboration than a...

Films you've seen recently and would unreservedly recommend:

"Late Spring" by Yasajuro Ozu. Incredibly beautiful, every shot is framed perfectly. The more I see of his work, the more I'm amazed by the man's artistry. "Tokyo Story" also comes highly recommended. I always enjoy writers/directors who work consistently with the same repertoire of actors...

questions you are dying to ask but are too scared to b/c of music nerd cred?

In "Outta Town Shit" by Ghostface on "More Fish" there's a line: "You gotta be on your Grizzly, if not then you might get pideeled" I understand Grizzly, but pideeled? Is that just a misheard lyric on lyric sites?

Films you've seen recently and would unreservedly recommend:

For a truly hilarious exploitation outing, I'd reccomend "Amazon Jail" (from the maestro responsible for "Bare Behind Bars". Much tamer, the girls mostly just sit around and complain while nude and occasionally rub up against each other/the occasional hairy man, but the flick's entirely worth...

    AJP Taylor

Read his "Making Of The English Working Class" last year and feel in love with both his style and approach. Anyone read his Blake book? He touches on Blake quickly in MotEWC, but not extensively and I was curious to know what his full-length appraisal of B was like.
