it's like plain bread, just normative enough that it's crossover appeal isn't ruined by any weird elements like wobblebass/halfstep-beats/odd breakdowns.

The thing is, he can easily break out of being just a whiny synth guy and travel into other sounds, but he'll always retain that brilliant sense of melody which counts for more in the end.

    King Midas Sound

I feel like once the vocals are there they hide too much of kevin martins cleverness. However, the album does kinda grow on you, it's just hard to listen through the entire thing sometimes cause it gets flat in some songs that sound too similar without catching vocals or lyrics. I still like...

The beat's really clean, but lonely. Think you need to bring the other elements up to saturate the song more, without sounding full enough the drums being that forward (and clean) sound a bit cheesy. I've got two new ~130bpm/techno/garage-sih cuts.

i don't think you understand the situations where post- has been used to define a genre. for example post-punk wasn't about rejecting punk, but embracing new influences while keeping the same attitude (political commentary, ect). this is what's happening. The sub-bass/garage influences/loose...

All this confusion is the best thing that could happen. When the genre defining over intellectualizers don't have a grip on things the artists have more room to breathe, but boy do they struggle to define everything.

If you're going to bring up FaltyDL then I'd put forward Love Is A Liability as the best cohesive piece, works as an album and works on the dancefloor (I'd say it's less esoteric as Untold's new ep). The only reason I think it'd go overlooked is cause it's not as important to numm heads as...

So you're blaming Flying Lotus for his followers? I mean I realize how you could think that he's not the greatest thing since sliced bread, but you can't deny his influence. In my opinion his music is usually a step above his derivatives, can't wait to see what he comes up with on the next album.

I think he means they focus on different thing, when you're not worrying about how synths sound or the exact frequency of your snare drum you're focusing on the tune which in the produces better music, hopefully anyway.

It's not that's it's better, it's that people are going for a particular sound for whatever reason. Same reason people still use Stratocasters and Les Pauls.
