but thats not a new thing is it - its just classic music marketing. like how the arctic monkeys and lilly allen were all hyped as myspace-supported bands who got a following from there purely but i think they (allen at least) had contracts before/while they were uploading songs to myspace? i...

yeah dubstep was very much not about celebrity, almost to the point of seeming a bit boring and too ordinary at times, but it def wasnt about courting celeb status or going overground etc. it was about being modest, humble, low key, in the shadows, and so on.

i think the secrecy thing is cool as long as it doesnt become shtick. like, devine recordings seemed to just do it naturally (out of paranoia really) and guys like loefah or coki were also just not really into doing loads of press or being 'seen', they genuinely wanted to stay in the background...

Films you've seen recently and would unreservedly recommend:

i liked bridesmaids also. more like an indie film than what i expected from all the hangover comparisons and it did have lots of funny bits (the scene in the jewelery shop with the teenage girl was classic) but it was very character based. the ending was a bit crappy but i was surprised at how...

i like blake, i even like some of the songs he sings on (unluck, wilhelms scream, never learnt to share, lindisfarne) but a lot of his beats are really awkward/borderline irritating (eg - i mind) and far too diffident. i would never say he uses them for the darkside. he uses them more for the...

    Funky/London/UK House

i caught a bit of it. mighty mo/hlc are totally perfect for funky. marcus should dump shantie (now boring) and rankin (limited and entertainingly though also tiringly sleazy) as they are just too relentless and just get mighty mo.

    Funky/London/UK House

i still dont know WHAT he is playing though. he MUST be getting stuff from outside the 'scene' or abroad even. or maybe this is just how funky sounds now. seems to have suddenly (well it seems sudden) become so all over the map.

GRIME- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

is it that good? ill try and find it. new wiley album is allllllllriiiiiiight i suppose. just woke up is the best thing on there. the rest is decent, but just typical wiley. its just another wiley album imo. more consistent than most of his others overall (and more like roots manuva actually...

GRIME- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

actually that roll deep set on sunday was seriously dissapointing selection wise - it was all the obvious hits from recent months - woo etc - and old classics all smashed into one which left me confused. new trim ep sounds good if a bit after the fact. and trim sounds kinda weary now. i still...

    Funky/London/UK House

why do you lot think marcus nasty has fallen off? i mean i dont really think its as shit hot/next level as it used to be (something about the atmosphere now, it seems a bit more complacent, and i think shanties laissez faire attitude makes it a bit wearisome now, compared to rankins...

etre et avoir. really loved it. doesnt do much but its really lovely. and the interviews with the teacher and the very last shot are unexpectedly moving/dramatic.

    Actress / Nail the cross

ive just got round to hearing this. i like it. but the filters/fuzziness/general 'worn' sound he seems to go for, it doesnt sound 'authentic' enough. just sounds like a cheap digital plug in or effect.

Finding any kind of job in London

im going to look into the temp pools at unis. if anyone has a link or advice on how to find out about those, id like to know. cinemas are hard to work for i find - they never seem to have openings in my experience. if you go on sites like reed, they have temping jobs advertised regularly. i...
