Andy I didn't see your post before I wrote mine - for what it's worth I'm not responding to you there.

    Funky/London/UK House

I'm not really "for" eclectic sets generally, and I disagree massively with the argument that UK funky doesn't have enough great tunes or vibe whatever to stand up on its own and needs to be played in the mix with other stuff (be it dubstep or bassline or house or whatever). To some extent the...

    Funky/London/UK House

Not to mention Hardsoul's "Self Religion"! x-post ^^ the above being a great example a US tune that is actually totally a UK funky anthem (rather like Suges' "We Belong To The Night", or, obv, "Don't Panic"). I'm not looking to Cooly G to provide me an update on US or european house - anyway...

Ha, well needless to say I disagree. I think she's got great taste in both UK funky stuff ("Night Time In July" / "Domino Effect (OB Remix)" / "Badman Riddim" / "What" / "Hard House") and non-UK funky deep house/euro material - DJ Yellow's "Vasefa (Argy Remix)" - classic! It makes me like her...

If you don't count her own tracks, Cooly seems to play about 1/4 to 1/3 funky.

I reckon Cooly G's stuff sounds better when contextualised within juicier stuff like Ame (though "Rej" is a bit obv yeah), Dennis Ferrer, Jamie Jones etc (and "Badman Riddim" ha ha). Her 6th July Rinse FM is still my favourite set by her (and one of the best DJ sets I've heard this year), and...

    Funky/London/UK House

ha it's true. I actually had half-invented funky in my head, long believing that people had to go back to the Bump & Flex Dancehall Dub of Cleptomaniacs' "All I Do" and start a new genre from there. Luka here's a link...

Luka did you ever hear Mak 10's 26 March set with Shantie? That's the one you really need!

It's good but I'd put it immediately below my list above. Definitely better than, say, the Estelle remix.

I'd rank Crazy Cousinz like this: 1. Inflation 2. Bongo Jam 3. Always Be Mine 4. Day 'n' Night Remix 5. Need You Bad Remix 6. Do You Mind Remix 7. Go Remix 8. Sweet Music Remix 9. Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes Remix 10. "High Heels" (can't remember the exact name of this) 11. Those Were The...

Ambient jungle = best dance music ever

"Great tracklist but this isn't ambient jungle or artcore it's just jungle." Yeah, I was using the terms more in the sense suggested by Woebot's mix. Still i think that Grooverider's disc sounds much more melodic and floaty than its tracklist would suggest. Especially compared to my other...

    Music you are prejudiced against

Oh noes! People in west london go to "bars" and drink wine while listening to "jazz-house".

Ambient jungle = best dance music ever

I have the unmixed version of that comp and its predecessor - both amazing. I think the best sustained argument for artcore/ambient-jungle being where it's at is this Grooverider mix on this comp. Both hyper-swirly melodies and atmospherics and some of the most body-confounding grooves ever...

Ambient jungle = best dance music ever

"She's So" is in my top three favourite jungle tracks so on one level I sympathize with Matt here, but as Droid points out if that's ambient jungle then that's defining the term broadly - as well include "The Angels Fell" and, for that matter, "Angel", "Renegade Snares", A Guy Called Gerald...

    Funky/London/UK House

Some of Vato Gonzalez's DJ mixes are really good actually, though you can tell he's reaching towards funky-like ideas from a Fedde De Grand electro-house starting point rather than a soulful funky house X grime starting point. It helps if you've ever enjoyed stuff like Moonbootica in the past...

    Funky/London/UK House

Totally agree with Tentative Andy here. The Dynamite voicing of Geeneus's "Crackish" is another massively great example. I think this ties in with the fact that, unlike grime and as per my fond hopes for it, uk funky is really taking its cues from dancehall rather than rap. Not merely in the...

Dr. Benway, not sure what it's called but the first snippet you posted is definitely a DJ Naughty production. The MC even calls it, but you can tell anyway from the signature squelchy synth chords he always uses (compare it to "Love Lockdown" or his productions for Yazz). I'm keen to ID that...

Yeah I was thinking of Cassy's PanoramaBar mix when I mentioned "Touch". I thought the transition worked incredibly well on that mix (which i could imagine having been quite an influence on at least some producers working in that Appleblim/2562/Peverelist zone).
