What do you think of this?

You heard about the online child prostitute scandal a year or so back, right? I think it was in the Sims, rather than Second Life, but as I understand it the games are quite similar in principal. Anyway, apparently there was a flourishing market in cybersex within the game, so much so that some...

    Borat

Haven't seen the film, maybe it's more subtle, but I never found the Borat sketches on the Ali G show funny. Always seemed like fairly cheap, and racist.

    The wave function

Must.. resist.. urge to engage... with misuse of terminology! Closing your eyes does not re-establish a wave function from particles. For starters, the rest of your senses are still getting information from the "particle" world. But more importantly, the wave function is an objective...

Shanty House - a new night (London) starts Fri 3rd November 06

Hah - Bruno and Eli are extremely fun (and a bit crazy). Last time I saw them, Eli took her tshirt off whilst DJing and then proceeded to whip up a crowd of very straight looking Brazilian expat ladies into some extremely filthy on-stage dancing. Will try and make it down...

Nice to see you back. Is this brief visit or are you going to be making more regular appearances here..?

Hot Chip & Junior Boys at the Astoria

Heh, no, but one of my companions did tell off a couple of rambunctious young fellows for shoving past him without saying "excuse me". They were suitably mortified, and were very polite on subsequent occasions. ;)

special k = fast working antidepressant

Ketamine is a fascinating substance - not only the safest general anesthetic known, but it has now also shown great promise as an analgesic in cancer patients who are poorly respondant to morphine. Ketamine is an NMDA antagonist, and works in the same ways as the recreational drugs PCP and DXM...

special k = fast working antidepressant

cont: Until the mechanism can be clarified, psychiatrists say, Zarate's and Krystal's studies are important for one major reason: they provide evidence that biogenic amines such as serotonin don't tell the whole story about depression. "We've had a preoccupation over so many years with biogenic...

special k = fast working antidepressant

Nature 443, 629-631(12 October 2006) Published online 11 October 2006 Depression: Comfortably numb Abstract It started life as an anaesthetic, then became a psychedelic club drug. Now researchers think ketamine could hold the key to understanding and treating depression, says Erika Check...

special k = fast working antidepressant

Having posted the odd report on erowid before, I can assure you it's not a disinfirmation prank. They have a bunch of people sifting through reports, weeding out the god awful stuff and trying to present the best anecdotal evidence they can. In the absence of scientific human trials with...

    Rave revival?

It sounds quite a lot like big beat to me too... if anyone wants it you can download it here: http://ill-ec-tro-nic.blogspot.com/2006/10/newer-wave-of-nu-rave.html Not bad brief summation too.

Hot Chip & Junior Boys at the Astoria

Anyone else make this? I saw Kode 9 in the crowd. Pretty disappointed with the JBs - way too quiet overall, and badly mixed it seemed - all you could hear was the drums and guitar with the synths way in the background. Which is totally missing the point for tracks like "Teach me how to fight"...

    Flash clubbing - Liverpool street

Yeah, that sounds strange, particulary as there are reports of the "repeated roars of approval" - to what, if everyon'e listening to different stuff? Unless they all had pre agreed mixes loaded onto their ipods synched from 7.24... Would be much better with a DJ in some far flung location...

    Rave revival?

Just heard the th Klaxons forthcoming LP, and I have to say it's not really "nu-rave" at all. Apart from the tracks already released, the rest of it is jsut plain old indy. Not all that bad though, occasional Bowie-ish vocals. And I do like their cover of "Not Over". I'm off to see them and...

yeah, it's all bit "guilty pleasures" innit? Though to be fair we're just guessing as to the promoters & punters intentions.
