    No more guitars.

Tangentially, I read in Julian Copes article about metal (I think in the Guardian?) that SUNN0)) ditched the guitars for their most recent headline gig and just used moogs instead... here it is: http://arts.guardian.co.uk/features/story/0,,1852426,00.html

    Cookbooks that changed your life.

McGee's "On food and cooking" Not strictly a cookbook, but every kitchen should have one. Written by an ex-physicist, you might not expect a book on the sience of cooking to be so well written - and poetic.

    V for Vendetta

Ronin is excellent, although quite simplistic in plot. It feels like he's just finding his feet. I also love The Dark Night Returns (who doesnt?) but the sequel to that was a total let down.

Finally: Now That's What I Call Vocal Grime

Im confused - have to say I know very little about the world of grime, but if it is as Logan says a "punk" music, why are people spending money on expensive studio time? I thought all this stuff was being done on PCs at home with Fruityloops. And isnt distributing mp3s a much more DIY thing...

Nu-Basement Records - the original Jungle Tekno label is back

Hmm yeah quite like that... despite it's somewhat carbon copy nature. Although: What with this rave-revival business, I reckon this stuff will go down very well at the kind of places he's talking about.

DJs that really earn their money

Definately. When Aphex wants to rock it, he most certainly can. I've seen him play several times over the last few years and he's always been excellent and varied, whether it's been sandpaper and upside down records or straight up detroit techno.

Tribe Just been watching repeat of Bruce Parry's programme on the BBC, Tribe (dunno what you all think of his attitude towards and relations with the various tribes - would be interested to hear) and I was struck by the differences between them The Nyangatom, one of several tribes in the Omo...

    Rave revival?

some sort of dialectic with PLUR as thesis and invidualism as antithesis? ;) Aufgehoben and all that...? It looks to me that contrary to what Swears says that culture as a whole has moved far to far towards the difference vs the similarity pole - all those things you mention are built on...

    Low

really? thats a shame. thought the bass was rather background at the TWLITF gig - seemed much less like a proper 3 piece.

    Low

I absolutely love Low, but I was a little bit disappointed with the 'things we lost in the fire' gig, as they didnt seem that comfortable on stage, not much interaction with the audience, and they didn't seem as musically tight as other times i've seen them. also, did they have a different bass...

Exactly. If you think Hot Chip are "trip indie to doze off too" i suggest seeing them play.

why on earth would we want another basement jaxx (not that I've got anything against them, I just dont think we need another one)? i just dont see how Hot Chip are "indie" at all really.
