    Critiques of psychoanalysis

I hope Padraig is going to reply to Borderpolice's above points. Especially those about "easyness" - what exactly is wrong with wanting an easy introduction that I can proceed from? Pretty much anything difficult I've read before, I've started out with simple commentary and criticism and before...

Race as an artifact of the racist's mind

Over at Lenin's Tomb there's continual mention of this idea - that "race" or "races" do not exist anywhere but only as an artefact in the racist's mind. Lenin seems reluctant to go into the details of the theory - could any one of you intelligent chaps break it down for me or link me to some...

    Burial interview @ Blackdown/Burial album

Burial interview @ Blackdown This is just fantastic: http://blackdownsoundboy.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_blackdownsoundboy_archive.html#114298266029581805 Fairly blown away by his discussions of how he makes his tracks just in a wave editor without sequencing anything... Pretty damn excited...

    Critiques of psychoanalysis

No, I don't think I am changing my position - in some disorders, like PTSD (also maybe OCD as well), all kinds of psychoanalytic therapy are contra-indicated (i.e they don't help to alleviate the symptoms, or in some cases make it worse). I'm hesitant in stating this as fact, because I only know...

    Critiques of psychoanalysis

I'm amazed at how you've gleaned my "positive assumptions" from such a short post. You, on the other hand, seem to be quite upfront in revealing your prejudices wrt mainstream psychology and psychoanalysis. This isn't my area of expertise, so I'm loathe to go into details - but as...

    Critiques of psychoanalysis

Not sure I'm following this really... But for treating certain disorders a lot of mental health practioners regard psychoanalysis as contra-indicated, and other forms of therapy, usually short solution focused types like CBT are preffered.

    ID cards, my emotional repsonse

Here's some things you can do: 1) Mass application for passports now - this will mean you get 10 years of biometric free passport, as well as creating a backlog and headache for the passport service. 2) When biometrics come in, refuse to put your finger on the the scanner. 2) Close or cross...

"It's not about the money. It's the principle."

Uh huh... but because it is legally recognised as such doesn't mean that there's any moral or logical grounds for considering it to be the case. I think from Fichtean point of view bodies like the state or corporation wouldn't be considered individuals - although I might be wrong, been a while...

"It's not about the money. It's the principle."

Yes, but isn't "The Corporation"'s schtick to treat corporations like individuals, and then say if they were people we'd consider them psychopaths- when in fact, as in Droid's point, corporations are totally different entities to individuals and to suggest that there can be "good" or "bad" ones...

    What's happened to Hope Sandoval?

Her official web page doesn't give any indications of what shes up to. The last thing she's done was appearing on a Le Volume Courbe album in 2005. I really liked the Bavarian Fruit Bread lp and wish she'd release some more stuff...

    Critiques of psychoanalysis

Hmm, thanks guys. The Macmillan, Badiou and Purloined Poe look interesting. I think D&G is a bit too deep end for me, since I've never really read Lacan and only a little Derrida. My background is mainly phenomenological (Husserl/Heidegger/Merleau-Ponty) & philosophy of science. . It's also...
