    Ursula Le Guin

It's about coming of age for sure and so, yes, sexual awakening as well. But the symbolism was not deliberate. The passage you're referring to is in one of her essays, Dreams Must Explain Themselves (collected in The Language of the Night). But I'd put that retrospective view as Le Guin going...

Did Kraftwerk invent techno as we know it today?

    How about this...?

    Ursula Le Guin

Hmm, maybe. I suppose it's the ideas you remember from these books, rather than the characters. Which I suppose is uncharacteristic of Le Guin.

    Ursula Le Guin

Try The Word for World is Forest. It's about (among other things) a non-violent society being changed by colonialist oppression. It's not absolutely her best but is pretty good – and also quite short, so you'll get what she's about without wasting much time (supposing you don't like it). After...

    Jeremy Corbyn

Now I'm getting nostalgic for the days when it was the UK exporting all over the world techniques developed in Northern Ireland. (PS I'm not really.)

    The Culture War

I'd certainly add Emily Howard to their catalogue of shit. If it had been an insider pisstake of transvestite culture (as with Matt Lucas' "only gay in the village"), and David Walliams had come out as such, that might have been different. But he didn't and it wasn't. Instead, it just created a...

    Jeremy Corbyn

Banished from the political discourse of the Labour party – and to a large extent from the national discourse. Though, as you say, that hasn't made much real difference with this government in power.

    Jeremy Corbyn

Up here, actually in red wall territory, it was nearly all about Brexit. As in: "We voted for Brexit and we want it. We certainly don't want another vote which we might lose." Which was what Labour policy was offering in 2019. Hence all the UKIP votes (of which there were a lot) went to the...

    Jeremy Corbyn

Only light in the sense that they weren't interested in discussing Corbyn or Labour policy on anything. Interesting. Pre-reading I'm guessing they critique Corbyn for not being very left at all.

Why Do We Even Listen to New Music?

Yes. But I don't see there's anything wrong with feeling that way. Music doesn't have the same importance to everyone. Also, I'm not sure Stravinsky's Rite is a good example of not wanting to hear new music. The audience were certainly there to hear new music. It's just that some of them...

Why Do We Even Listen to New Music?

In other words you're not really that interested in music are you. You just listen to what you already know you like. (Which is usually what you listened to when you were 18.) And that's perfectly okay. I just eat what I already know I like, but I'm not really that interested in food.
