This could go in many threads but I'm putting it here because of Dick's perceived closeness to the Tory party which many believe is the reason for police reluctance to investigate persistent and blatant law-breaking by senior Tories. I'm not sure what the story is, do people think that making her a Dame was a bribe or is it that she just likes the powers the police have been given to break up protests?
Whatever, it seems Cressida Dick is stepping down/or being stepped down, not totally sure which really.
It is with huge sadness that following contact with the Mayor of London today, it is clear that the Mayor no longer has sufficient confidence in my leadership to continue. He has left me no choice but to step aside as Commissioner of the Metropolitan
Police Service. At his request, I have agreed to stay on for a short period to ensure the stability of the Met and its leadership while arrangements are made for a transition to a new Commissioner.
I read that as saying that although she officially resigned, he forced her to do it.
I'm not sure what has particularly spurred Khan's loss of confidence in her lately but it was very controversial last week when the Met (after at first refusing to investigate Johnson's numerous work events) suddenly announced that they were going to investigate the latest one and requested that therefore Sue Gray's report - which the Tories all claimed to be waiting for before deciding on whether to send letters of no confidence in Johnson - not mention a number of crucial things. This caused howls of protest from, well from pretty much everybody in fact, with the phrase "stitch-up" being repeatedly mentioned. The claim being made is that the Met refused to get involved when they should and then inserted themselves when they were not necessary and delayed and softened the impact of the Gray report with the aim of getting Johnson off the hook. I suppose on could now add another chapter to this story by suggesting that Khan has retaliated on the part of the left and punished Dick for this particularly blatant bit of cosy establishment corruption.
And as she leaves, one major question remains to be answered. I'm sure that all of you, are thinking the same as me here; was she ever photographed with Ed Balls?
