Sure thing. I expect it will still spout sense and nonsense in equal measure ;) No doubt someone will try and get it to pass the Turing Test, too.

Nice idea tho. I'm sure it will be quite a spectacle.

To my mind, the definitive article on the subject of AI is: Babbage's Dancer by Simon Schaffer. It's a really great read:

"'One of the reasons we tend to think a calculator can do arithmetic', Collins suggests, 'is the natural way we help it out and rectify its deficiencies without noticing. All the abilities we bring to the calculation - everything that surrounds what the calculator does itself are so widespread and familiar that they have disappeared for us'. This is the point of the tale of the Dancer and the Difference Engine. The intelligence attributed to machines hinges on the cultural invisibility of the human skills which accompany them. In Babbage's devices, the skills which surrounded automatic mechanization were systematically rendered invisible."

Corpse eating robots

Since they apparently don’t own TVs or DVD players, researchers at Robotic Technology, Inc. are developing battlefield machines that can fuel themselves with collected organic matter. The experts say such fuel “could” include human corpses, but if you picked up anything on flesh-eating robots over the years you know they’ll ignore that tasty soybean field and make a chow line right to the nearest corpse. And, if the machines can’t find enough dead people to eat, they can always make new ones.

Researchers seem to get a kick out of insuring the demise of the human species, so the project is called the Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot or EATR.

Anyway, this company is apparently developing concepts for macro scale battlefield robots that could refuel themselves using organic matter.

We know about nanotechnology, but this is, you know, something else with it's own particular grotesque implications and fascination.

The power source is the interesting bit though really, it's like Mr. Fusion.







So it's a kind of steam engine. Pretty crazy that they seem to be actually getting somewhere with it, albeit with the aid of military backing.
